Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way of updating the new 1.01 firmware to the D7000 without the use of a card reader as I don't have one.
Is there a way of getting data to the camera via the USB?
Thanks in advance.

If you're in Windows, just plug in your D7000 using the USB cable and let windows install the device driver. Then under My Computer you should see the D7000 show up as a camera. Go to the first drive there (called Removable storage 10001 on my machine, at least). Put the .bin file in the root directory—the same directory that has the folder called DCIM.
Aww thanks for taking the time to let me know that info Jonny, I'm actually a mac user though, sorry, should have mentioned that!
I have the same issue but I am on a PC, jonnyapple i tried that, but it seems, since it shows up as a camera I can only read from it. Btw I am using Win 7 x64.
robtarren: take your flash card to any Best Buy or Apple Store...or fine a friend with any MacBook Pro...all the new MacBook Pro's have a SD card reader on the left side...just pop your card in and put the .bin file on it and you should be set. FYI the MacBook Pro 17 does not have a SD card reader so don't use it.
Sorry, robtarren and Mk32. You'd think I'd actually try it before suggesting it, but you'd be wrong. :-(
I went digging through the menus to find how to change the camera to mass storage USB mode and it's not available in the D7000! Craziness. golf007's suggestion is a good one, anyway.
Yeah, it is annoying camera companies are removing USB mass storage these days...
Time to find an SD card reader, but I have no hot pixels in the first place so in no rush.
mk32 - You still should apply the new firmware.
as for the rest of You, if You don't have SD card reader it's time to get one. not only to apply firmware but also to speed up Your workflow, good card reader will speed up the time You need to copy files to Your HDD.
Thanks for the response guys. Good idea golf007, hadn't thought of that! It does seem a bit silly that there's no software supplied by Nikon that allows a two way flow of data.
Adamz, I don't know why, but my brain always tells me to avoid using a card reader as I always think the insertion and removal of a memory card will give the components more opportunity to fail one day. Has anyone ever experienced this, or am I just being over cautious?!
I think there is more chance of a failure with the cables and cable connectors.
I agree with Adamz.....I have a card reader on my laptop, but I use a USB card reader instead.....it really speeds up workflow!
I wondered if it's normal to get a new D7000 with firmware 1.0. I bought the camera from Amazon, and after had waited for 3 weeks, I've got it this week.
The firmware is still 1.0. I thought all new cameras should have been on 1.01 by now.
that's normal paeataa.
Just wanted to see if there are any D7k owners that have NOT applied the update yet...I personally have not- bought December and had no pixel issues right off the bat. I know that it's what I SHOULD do by todays standards (lol- own a ps3? updates every what week?) but I am weary of medding with perfection.
speeddemon229, I am like you, no problems with my D7000, and I do not want to apply the updated and then find that I have imported problems, so, I am happy
