Idea from last year this time. Your best shot...only one from 2012. Use the PAD rules for posting pictures...800 pixel max. Can give some explanation why you like it.
So here is mine. Shot at the county fair this last summer. I like this shot because of the blur I got on the ride, but the center pillar of the ride being in focus and sharp. It really turned out better than expected. Was my first time out at an event like this at night time.

My favorite is this one of The Temptations. I just got lucky and caught them with their hands in the perfect position. I shot this with the D7000 and the F4 24-120 NIKKOR lens.
This is a great idea just because it makes you look back at where you've been for the last year. Honestly, I don't feel like it has been my strongest photographic year. Hopefully next year is better.
This is of my son, and I know parents like pictures of their own kids so I'll forgive you for not liking it as much as I do.
I wish someone would just look at my Flickr account and tell me what they like....from the 1700 there... I will look, but sometimes attempting to compare a car shot with a live person is just not possible. The live animal always wins out. Tough to argue with your new one Jonny...

A picture I took at this years British Military Tournament in London earlier this month. I took it with my trusty D700 and 70-200 f2.8 VR2 lens. If you're interested, the camera setings were: 70mm, ISO 640, 1/60s @ f2.8, -0.7EV. As most of you know I hate editting, so this is straight out of the camera. I like the shot because of the way the darkness gives the picture a natural border, and the fact that it was the first professional shoot I brought my son on. (He was in the rafters with my D3s and 24 1.4....if you look carefully you can see a slight wobble in my picture bought on by fear of something happening to my camera!) :-)

And I've got it ( the stadium ) in blue and green as well ! I wouldn't say it is my 2012's best but possibly the night I enjoyed most ( taking photographs ) .

Although there are more artistic photos in my collection I chose this one because of the rare opportunity to shoot it and 2 other reasons:
1.) Unless there is a pressing or dire need for the President to return to West Palm Beach in the coming years I don't think this huge piece of technology will be sitting on a tarmac near me anytime soon.
2.) Even though there were 100s of people parked along a side street taking obstructed pictures I chose to run 1/4 mile, cross some yellow and black ribbon labeled "Do Not Cross" and join 6 other people for a few snaps. As I was walking away Palm Beach Sheriffs deputies were approaching with lights and siren bursts getting them out of there.

Stunning photos in this sticky.... I always struggle with "best shot". What I like that I capture and what others enjoy are usually very different. This is my favorite of the year.
Nice idea to round out a great year for photography. There have been a lot of great photos posted on this site to say the least. I was so excited last April when I received my D800e and I'd have to say that this was probably my best shot this year:

Some amazing shots so far.
I like this shot, but it's hard to separate the shot from the goosebumps you're feeling when you've got a shutte whizzing by you, so it may not be a "great" shot, as such.

Many of you have seen this, but it is my best of the year. It took a few weeks of scouting and learning Osprey's habits, tide preference and a few other small indicators, then 7 mornings of waiting in my spot...
I don't know about best of the year, but this is one of the better of the recents

tcole your right it is interesting seeing what people choose. Everyone enjoys different things and I think thats why photography is such a great medium.
