This is taken from another topic.
Niko did nothing wrong just posted a related thread - wicked fast.

Ouch that was fast. We need a ask Niko if there is a thread about a subject search. He seems to find all the ones that we can't ;)

Yeah what is up with that?

    Four Observations I have made:
    1. As of late there are many who are creating new topics without searching (I can relate when I first got into forums years ago)
    2. Many topics repeated regularly that a search should have brought up.
    3. There are random posts on threads over 6 months old where the poster must not have see the time of the last post. (almost alway newer member i'm guessing redirect from an outside search.)
    4. When I try searching for various items or discussions we had just a few months ago where I know various terms that should bring the topic up, I can never get any relevant results from the searches or I have to go though pages of results to find it.

(Before all the "hey idiot you don't know how to search" comments - I write SQL scripts to pull data out of 100's of data bases to create reports for fortune 1000 companies as my day job. I can find anything in almost any system and something is off here.)

So that round robin is covered - What is missing out of all of the threads so that Items are easier found for everyone? Tags, <bla bla>s, or something else? How about archiving the threads over 12 months old?

    Admins - Niko: Any advise?
    Everyone else:
Please leave advise to admins as they are the experts but sound off it you are having the same issues or if you have seen other things. (Please make everything constructive.)

if you do a forum search (eg: site:nikonrumors.com/forum d300s) you will not find anything other than the name of the thread.

so if what you want to discuss is not the name of the thread, then you will not find it. Niko seems to read everything, so remembers if a subject has been discussed and can link to it. If you post a new thread that he knows has been talked about, then likely you will be closed.

I've had that happen to me many times in the past.

Searching for things isn't particularly easy in this forum.

I started a thread after looking for awhile in the search and nothing came up. Niko found another thread that answered my question in my thread but was not the main topic of the thread he found. I dont know how someone could get around that. I do thank him for finding it for me though, it answered my question

Come on, TTJ. Do a forum search as this has already been discussed.

Just kidding. One good method that I've found to find things is to start a new topic and check out the related threads that automatically populate under my new proposed title. Then I just click on those threads or change the keywords until I find what I'm looking for. I have better luck with that than the google forum search for some reason.

The other option is just posting the thread and relying on Niko's photographic memory to shoot you down.

LOL. I know I couldn't find a thread the other day even after using tons of search terms. I know it was within the last year because I could vaguely remember it. I have no advice for you. I have had the same problems.

Oh boy - don't get me started on this one!

Niko locked one I started and linked to some that weren't too relevant.... :^(

Never mind the 'Do a search before posting, how about 'do a search before posting and here is how'?

Brad .... I mean Niko ... has so much time on his hands that he simply saves all posts and does text searches on them.

Geez nothing from Niko? - Oh shit I'm going to get booted. Nice knowing you guys, great times, thanks for the shared knowledge, great banter and snarks. ;)

I don't search for threads just topics or items. The forum backbone is not a bad and probably very powerful - if everyone uses it the way it was intended by the original designers.

Its a shame that Niko has to spend time redirecting everyone all the time.
