Distortion is noticeable, but easily corrected in "post". Contrast and resolution are superb. The one improvement I wish: reduced flare when the sun shines on the front element, but not actually onto the sensor. This could likely be accomplished with an additional Nano-Crystal coat on another surface (or two or three). It does not require a new optical design. I feel no need for VR, larger aperture or larger range.
I doubt this lens is on Nikon's shortlist for urgent updates. It's not on my list, either.

/gasp...you said the N word. That double or triples the price of Nikon lenses...someone delete the post before Nikon sees the money signs flash before their eyes ;)
