I did and search and did not see a topic started. I work in the cold for long hours. Im in the PNW so cold is -5f to 32f. But after a certain amount of time my hands are freezing. I cant wear most gloves because they are to big and bulky to run a camera easily. Is there a glove you can buy that is thin but still retains some warmth.

Ouch that was fast. We need a ask Niko if there is a thread about a subject search. He seems to find all the ones that we can't ;)

I have never tried them with my camera, but Boss 4185 Deerskin Grain Gloves w/Thinsulate gloves might work well. I use them to ski in so they are good (at least for me) down to 0F. About as light weight and as much dexterity as you are going to get in an insulated glove.
You can buy them at most grange stores or order online through Amazon (4185L for large, 4185M for medium). I have large hands and normally wear XL gloves, but wear a large with these as they are leather and stretch a bit. If they start off on the large size they will get too large and baggy after wearing a bit.
Just tried them with my D700 and it seems to be fine. Funky with the gloves on, but if it was really cold out, it wouldn't be a problem.

I haven't tried it but I think a good pair of hunting gloves might work. they usually have a flap to get the trigger finger free or out of the glove when needed.

The more time I spend here, the bigger feeling I get that Niko is just a database robot with people communication skills enabled.;-)
About the gloves.. I use the cheapest wooly gloves I could find with finger tips cut off. Enough for up to -10, -15 if it's not windy. If you're not using your camera just put your hands in your pockets.;-)

I recommend gloves from FreeHands.
They range in price from 18$ to 80$ and feature foldable index and thumb fingertips.
They also have ones that have allow you to use touchscreens while the gloves are on.

im not sure if this thread is going to stay open, but why not just go and buy some hunting gloves. I went and got a pair of black gloves, with a place to pull your finger out (normally used to shoot the gun, but in this case my camera) for 6 US dollars. I could have gotten them even cheaper, if i had the coupon i found later that day. regrets : p

The FreeHands sound like what I was thinking would be the optimum. Being able to get the index and thumb free when needed would be the perfect solution.

I did not even think about looking under "Survival in the wilderness". Sorry admin. I made some searches on gloves and did not get a hit. Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up getting some thin hunting gloves with fold back fingers they work perfect.
