    mb, I wish I could have a view like that. It would sure beat the arid hillsides of southern California.

    JMCS, nice composition, perhaps a bit overexposed but still a good shot.

    drkbl, what exactly is that?

    tai, good shot. It's some sort of skipper I believe.

    @gentoo - Thanks! I think you're right. I like shooting insects, but I have no idea what's what when it comes to them.

    From Gentoo: "drkbl, what exactly is that?" My guess is that it is some type of optically guided missile.

    Gentoo, it is the heat seeker of a soviet air-to-air missile called K-13 or NATO code AA-2 'Atoll' which development has interesting story.

    adamz; can't tell from these photos. I cannot see any field marks and they are likely not a species I'm familiar with. I will enlist the help of some birdforum members.

    adamz, I think there is too many things on this photo, and the BW mode is against the picture. The camouflage of the birds is too good for the bokeh of the crowded, detailed background. Did you shot a picture of only the right group? I think that would be a strong shot with that bird staring at us on the left.

    mb, our cat IS A killing machine as my next, high-ISO, manual focus picture of this squirrel huntress shows :) She was so busy watching the squirrel that jumped at the sound of the mirror :)
    I like the picture, who is the right side sculpture? My only complaint is the tip of the tower - I think it would be better either show the ornament or crop it together with the roof, but of course it would affect the placement of the merlons.

    gentoo - if this would help, I took this photo on the entrance to Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, India

    drkbl - thanks for feedback, unfortunately I don't have too many pictures from this location :(, so I've played a little bit with this what I do have, and below is the result, You were right that color works better for this shot, also decided to crop it more

    adamz;
    The consensus is that they're young Black Kites so far. I knew they were kites but I was thinking Red Kites at first. I posted the color image and location on birdforum. Hopefully now we will get a positive ID. bird identification, especially with birds of prey requires being able to see field mark as many groups of birds contain look alike species.

    bickhal; great shot catching a typical behavior. Egretta rufescens is better known as Reddish Egret ;)

    @drkbl – I know what you mean; I took my doters hamster from my cat’s mouth. I wish I pointed a camera a bit upwards to catch the ornament on top, that is a military church and two sculptures at the front represent unknown soldiers and are made (as almost everything else in it) from used guns and canons.
    And here is one happy place:

    mb those red stripes on the chairs to the left look too orange to me. I think you need to calibrate your monitor. Just kidding!

    @Gentoo,
    Thanks for the correction to Egret from Heron! Most around this area of Florida do refer to the Reddish Egret as a Heron, but in general, the guides say Black legs it's an Egret, Yellow , it's a heron. Even in one of Audubon's paintings he describes one as a Heron http://www.floridakeysbest.com/audubon/purple_heron.htm. All in the eye of the beholder?

    The terms egret and heron themselves are interchangeable between species. However each is usually known as one or the other. Leg color has little to do with anything.

    Snowy Egret and Reddish Egret are in fact more closely related to the Little Blue Heron (all are egretta) than they are to the Great Egret which is close to the Great Blue Heron. Also the Reddish Egret has a rare white phase and both can come from the same nest!

    Keeping with this theme and getting back on topic, here's my photo of the day.

    flea - nice shoot
    gentoo - You could crop it a little bit, to not show the walls on the left, but I guess the main purpose of Your picture was to illustrate the bird - nice colors
    mb - doesn't see any problems with the color of chairs, interesting composition
    poster - actually the first picture from You that I don't like, Your B&W photos are much better IMHO
    bickhal - nice shoot, although prefer Your other shot from the same location (LINK), also You can boost ISO a little bit - You were shooting at 200, and with d90 You can easily go with 400 or even 800 and You'll be able to get faster speeds, as there's some visible camera movement on some of Your pictures

    @NikoDoby – Stripes on those chairs were actually blue so there is definitely something wrong ;)
    @Flea – Nice BW work
    @poster – first color from you and it is bad for the health, I mean smoking is
    So it’s a cat …
