Adamz - I know you have been here from the very beginning. You are now a moderator. You should see some extra options like deleting a post or a topic. Let me know how it goes - thanks! Also, if you have a website, business or something you want to promote, send me the URL and I will add it as a permanent link to the forum (on the top left side bar). Just my way of saying thank you.
I also gave moderator rights to another regular reader.Posted 3 years ago # -
Darn ... do we have to suck up to Adamz as well now ?

I added a new tag and a separate forum "photo-a-day" (tags are on the left, the forum is at the bottom of the main forum page). This will provide easy access to previous month's entries.

@poster - nice portrait, great colors - you can clone out the white dot on the top as it's distracting
@art - very interesting perspective, how wide was the lens?
@monty - little bit too soft, but I love the abstract in this image
@mb - the forground is a little bit distracting
@tai - nice perspective, would love to be there

thanks adamz, I just noticed it.
@Tai, lovely place, seems very peaceful. how's that Tokina working out for you, I have been meaning to get it as soon as it shows up in stock somewhere here in NYC. Is it good for portraits?
@ MontyHow long was that exposure? It almost looks like a mist. I would try to get the shot from a lower point tough, to make show perspective and make it it more wide. Try putting the camera on one of these rocks.( don't forget to protect the gear first though)
Here's one from April

poster, I like your first portrait most, just perfect!

@poster, the exposure time was 10 sec @f/9 with two ND8 gray filters. I wouldn't really dare go lower as the spring would have flooded my gear as the flow was fast and the water column collapsed to different sides without any warning or regularity. Ages ago some geologists drove a pipe into a spring ... still works :) I have a shot from another angle in my album: http://pilt.delfi.ee/picture/6360947/

@poster The Tokina is decent. Not the sharpest lens in the world, especially in the corners and wide open, but what can you expect from a lens that wide at that price? Performance towards the center and stopped down a bit is much better. There's a few interesting things you can do with the lens for people at some distance, but something that wide distorts a lot once a subject gets near the foreground.
I'm in NYC and bought mine at B&H a few months ago, are they out again?

@drkbl
Thanks mate, street photography isn't my best skill but I manage. A big telephoto lens helps a lot too hehe.
Man that shot is just beautiful. Awesome perspective and colours. Just love it.
@monty
Ahh well in that case I wouldn't do it either. I thought that the spring was rather slower than you said. I like the second shot better to be honest. The perspective appeals to me more.
@tai
Cool, I mainly need a wider lens for more distant portraits which the Tokina would be good. I was torn between Sigma 10-20 and this Tokina, but since poeple said that Sigma wasn't sharp and a lot slower than Tokina , it made me turn towards this lens.
Yeah B&H and Adorama are constantly out of this lens. Probably as bad as getting any new Nikon lens just released. And the damn price is inflated too in other stores if they are available. Damn capitalism. I kid, I kid
@mb
Nice composition. I wish I had a forest somewhere near me. Lucky guy.

@poster, I liked the mystery of the first shot :) Where do you live that you don't have any forests around you?
Posted 3 years ago # -
@drkbl - nice lily flower, great colors
@mb - very moody picture, I like the guiding lines a lot
@poster - I'm not a fan of ppl portraits, but Yours are really good
@monty - nice landscape - what's there in the left corner a cross? You can play with it a little bit in PS to get more from clouds, but it's really a great picture

I believe that it is a power line pole. Now it looks like something that needs a bit of cloning :D

@poster - yeah, I should have figured that's what you meant. You can do some fun distant portraits with this lens. Today's image is also from it, Himeji Castle, one of my favorite places in the world. Click image to embiggen, link below for related blog post.
