Those who preordered the Nikon 35mm 1.4g lens... check your orders!!

I put in my order with amazon on september 14th and was told my estimated delivery date would be the 14th of november.

Well november 14th rolled around and nothing... It was a sunday anyway, didnt expect it.

What I didnt expect was that today, at 12:36 am PST... I get an email saying my order was canceled because they didn't have the item. I check some forums and it seems people who ordered later them me, and consequently had later estimated delivery dates, still show valid orders. IM FURIOUS!!!

They probably sent you an email with the subject:
Your Amazon.com order (#xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx): your approval required

This would have been send about 1 month ago stating they did not have the lens in stock and they needed your approval to keep the order.

I ordered on September 14. On October 14 I received the email. According to the message below, they would cancel the order by November 13 if it wasn't confirmed.

"Still want it? We'll keep on trying. To keep your order for this item open, please click the link below. Otherwise, we'll cancel your order on November 13 2010, if we haven't located it by then."

    So my questions:
    1) When did your order the lens?
    2) Check your email and look for the email I referenced about 30 days after your order

They did send me that email. They sent it about a month ago. After responding to it... "still want it" etc... they then sent me the estimated delivery date of november 14th.

I ordered it september 14th, as soon as i saw it posted on NR.

Believe me, I did not do anything to get my order canceled intentionally.

This is the email I got today:

    "Hello,

Due to a lack of availability from our suppliers, we will not be able to obtain the following item(s) from your order:

"Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S FX SWM Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras"
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042X9LB0

We've cancelled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience. We must also apologize for the length of time it has taken us to reach this conclusion. Until recently, we had still hoped to obtain these item(s) for you.

Please visit the product detail pages above to see if these items are available from other sellers.

If you took advantage of a promotional offer when placing this order, this cancellation may affect your order's eligibility for that offer. If this is the case, please contact customer service:

    http://www.amazon.com/contact-us

If we determine that you should still receive the offer, we'll reimburse you for the value of the promotional discount. (This will not apply if all items in the order were cancelled.)

If appropriate, your gift-certificate account will be credited.

    Your order is now closed."

Ouch that is painful. My order is still active with no change in status, Delivery estimate is November 15-30. Anyone get a shipping or something different?

The status on the lens is now:
    Temporarily out of stock.
Order now and we'll deliver when available. We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information. Your account will only be charged when we ship the item.

I'm having no luck trying to locate an 85 1.4G. I can't help but think Nikon doesn't manage it's product launches very well, I mean can you imaging Apple launching it's iPad, and then no one being able to buy one?!

I had the exact same thing happen to me with the 35mm. I ordered on Sept 14th, anxiously awaited November 14th and then got zapped! I called and spoke to Amazon twice, with little effect. I asked just to be kept on the list in priority order, but no go.
Then yesterday, I saw that they listed it again and I reordered it now with a Dec/Jan delivery. I had also ordered two SB700 and the exact same thing happened to those orders.
I think that NR should take some action on our behalf since they seem to work closely with Amazon. Kind of outrageous if you ask me.

In Europe the 35mm f/1.4G AF-S FX Nikkor is not available yet. Was supposed to be available in November!!!
I got my 85mm f/1.4G AF-S FX Nikkor without any delay at the dealership in Paris (France).

I don't recall the details of the federal statute, but fairly recently a federal law was enacted that requires retailers to cancel orders or get permission from the buyer to extend the ship date if a product cannot be shipped within 30 days of ordering. No co-incidence that the poster's order was cancelled 30 days after the order was placed.

those of us who preordered early enough got an email about a month ago asking if we still wanted the item.... I replied saying that I did still want it. The coincidence is that because i ordered so early on, I get shafted to the end of the line.

I don't understand the point of that email confirming my interest if they just up and cancel my order after my estimated delivery date is passed.

It was a joke Tran to see who would comment on it first . . . I guess you are checking updates as often as me? No dice, still Nov 15-30 in my Amazon account. Maybe they should at least change it to Nov 22-30, but I guess it will be December 15ish

Happened to me also, which is why when it popped up on J&R on the 1st Jan, I jumped on it. Just cancelled my Amazon order right afterward which they had goofed and canceled after being on the list for several months. Hope it comes this week! See my new thread about this (snagged 35mm).

Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S FX SWM Nikkor Lens
I'm a wedding photographer who shoots in dark conditions often. This lens performs great in these conditions. I use this lens on a D3 body and the AF is good. It doesn't seem to be as fast at my zooms (24-70 2.8 or 70-200 2.8) but it's still pretty accurate when focusing in low light. The image quality is AMAZING. Certainly an upgrade from the older 35 f/2 version . Images has more contrast & are sharper. I also own the 24 1.4 G and I would say that the IQ on the 35 is about the same. Over all, I'm very impressed and satisfied with this 35
