One more D90 Q thread

Hey now! Gonna cut to the chase right away -Upgrade to the D90 or D7000 from a D60?

- I'm your textbook hobby photographer, no ambition to become anything else.
- I mostly shoot portraits, city/street and macro.
- I pretty much only shoot under controlled and/or good conditions and lighting.
- I don't care about shooting video at all.

Features that i've come to find that i miss during my time with the D60:

- Screwdriver
- AEB/HDR
- CLS, FP-sync or whatever...
- A few more focuspoints

Guess that's about it, so what should i get? I'm not really on a tight budget here but i'm thinking that (at least here in Sweden) i could probably get a D90, another SB900 and probably even that 50mm/1.4 that i've been craving for for the same price as the D7K body alone.

Thought, comments, help meeh...

You've answered your own question, "get a D90, another SB900 and probably even that 50mm/1.4".
But desire can be an expensive feeling and I sense you desire a D7000 ?

With what you told us about how you shoot you don't need the D7000, get the D90 and put the money somewhere else.

This is one example where one could forever be yearning and saying "what-if" should you choose the D90 and it's antiquated (that's sarcasm, BTW) metering and high ISO performance. Sounds like you would be fine with D90, but I still bet you will yearn. I would. Tough call worth researching and comparing before you decide.

My wow moments come more from using a good lens to get the right shot than rejoicing the body, but I do love my D90 more than my D40 by a mile everyday.

Hi, i currently have the kit 18-55 lens, 55-200, sigma 10-20/4-5.6 and the tamron 90/2.8 and an SB900.

And yes, it's definitely just desire that makes me look at the D7000. But at the same time i don't want to realize down the road that my camera is technically limited. And by that i don't mean FPS and ISO but stuff like FP-sync, HDR and so on that my D60 just can't do.

Given that aspect, can you guys think of anything that i would come to miss in say 2 years time with the D90?

I don't know what the prices are like in Sweden NikDawg but here in the UK a D7000 body is almost double the price of a new D90 body.
Using dpreview's side by side comparison http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sidebyside.asp the differences between them are not massive, but depending on how you take images could be very important.
Looking at the lenses you've got, and the fact that you already have one SB-900, I'd buy the best I could afford and get the D7000...will it stop you from wanting the D400 which might be announced in 2011...no, but what can you do ?
