I do find this thread mildly amusing as an example of "analysis paralysis" and "waiting for the next model". No doubt when the SB700 is eventually released, the wait for the SB800 will start ..........

... oh wait a minute ... I have one of those already!

Au contraire. (sp?) If I have to wait much longer, I'll just by an SB900.

I fear there is no reason to wait for the 700, that the replacement will possibly be more limited than the current, and would gobble up all the 600's I could find if I were in the market for the low-end of Nikon's CLS. ;)

I dunno, now that I got the 35mm 1.8, it doesn't really need a flash, but for the 18-135 I would love to have a bit of bounce flash. I'm waiting for it to be announced too, I don't want to buy the SB600 just to have the SB700 or it's replacement be announced.

I'm really wanting the new UI, more than anything else - low end vs. high end. Just would like to get 2 SB700s instead of one SB900 (anticipated price rounding error ignored).

NSX, I don't agree with that. I have a f/1.4 lens and while it allows fast shutter speeds, it doesn't get rid of those crappy shadows indoor. You need bounce no matter what the aperture is, unless you like people looking like raccoons.

Spoken like a scientist. Why doesn't my wife understand statements like this?

Most likely because most women don't think logically. In any case, people who are not interested in photography have a hard time understanding why we would want to spend more than $300 on a camera, let alone a lens or flash unit.

AND if you get 2 SB900's. . .you can probably accomplish the same thing with 2 SB700's? lol. . .

If you can set the SB700 up as a slave to a D200/300/700 body, usually meets most of the requirements. . .of filling up shadows and preventing the 'coon eye. . .

Well, the SB-700 has been announced.
Have any of you seen any reports or heard of a release date other than "Late November"?

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Hey t-mitch4
In the UK the date I was given by a couple of retailers was Nov 17th ?
There are a lot of SB-600's out there so I'm waiting to see what price impact the release of the SB-700 will have on the SB-600...at the moment it's £100 cheaper than the SB-700 pre-order price.

    Just opened my two.

they are tidy little units, much smaller than the 900.

seemed to af assist fine on all points on d300s and d700 up to 200mm at 300mm it didn't lock on consistently.

I think i'll rename this old thread and close it because its just three pages of speculation before the SB-700 was real.
