At some places, the SB600 went up in price along with its older brother SB900.
With luck and discounts [live rebate], the SB600 can be had for close to $205 and the SB900 close to $405.

Some local loonies are asking $350-$375 for a used SB800. Looking to pull trigger on SB900 soon, as I need to shoot some portraits..

Personally I find the 600 to be a very good flash. It has all the options I need and plenty of power. Biggest improvement they could make, as far as I'm concerned, is in the user interface. That's still cumbersome and even after more than a year I still need to consult the manual from time to time.

I've got a 600 and a 800. The 800 gets more use because it recycles faster (with the weird add-on battery attachment). For most lighting situations, the 600 is fine. When you start delving into the finer points of CLS, the 800 becomes more useful.

I'd kill to have a 900, if for no other reason than the easier controls. But then I'd have to figure out how to use three flashes !

Yeah - I have an 800 (and several other strobes) but need some more to use with the 800 and CLS - don't need the big 900s now, but would like 600 power with a better UI = SB700

I really love my 600's. I just read today that they were d/c'd, which is odd. I just bought a new one at my local camera shop for 185 and they still had quite a stock.
Well when the 700 comes out hit me up and I will buy all your 600's! I've got 4 now but hey can never have too much light. One day I aspire to be Joe McNally. HA.
BTW anyone have a SU-800 for sale. My SB 800 is getting a lil heavy on my D3. I really do miss the pop up flash controller on my D300 sometimes.

yeah I read that too. But I checked out Nikonusa and it said nothing of the kind. I find it a lil odd that amazon would know before Nikon released it. Its not like it would be a huge secret to stop making the 600. I dunno. Hey like I said I want the new one to come out and everyone with them sell theirs so I can snatch em up cheap. The UI is odd, but I got used to it and can do everything I need quickly.

Not sure how the whole "discontinued" thing works, but I wouldnt read much into it. B&H lists the D200 as discontinued, but Best Buy has it for a steal at $650.

Yeah I know. I would really like to have a SB 600 with better controls. The SB800 \ 900 is great, but I don't think I need more than one of them. They are great for fill flashing a large room, or used on camera for general work. But I'm not sure that they do much more for you as an off camera key light (other than let you get a little further away).

The 600 is a very nice flash for the price. Just hard to use... especially if you have large fingers LOL.

Willis - I agree. I need a couple more fill flashes, and I really like the controls on the SB900. But ... I don't need more flashes so bad that I'm going to invest in 600s when they SHOULD be updated any time now.

I'll get the SB600 when the SB700 gets released. Whenever that is.

Careful with that. I bought the SB-800 for $350 about two days before the SB-900 was announced. They sell new today on amazon for $699. I should have left it in the box lol.

Yes, I will be careful. I've been tracking prices on BH and J and R. Prices went up a bit in January, so I know a deal when I see one.

Bonus points if they add SU-4 mode to it. I just discovered it on my SB-800 and really like it, but its useless without another SB-800 to trigger it.
