There is a lot of meat in this piece, I'm most excited about a "smart camera" and some of the mid-level lenses, but thats just me.

Nothing but guessing...I predict Nikon's new cameras will be better than before, more expensive than the older models and just as difficult to find in stock.
Please please please wait another year for the 50 1.2 :(. I need to save up!
Im excited for the D800 to replace my D3, the 24-1052.8 vr would be very interesting but i honestly doubt they would replace a 3 year old lens
If I learned anything reading this site for almost a year is to not hold my breath on rumors ; >
But pierre.... you dont understand... Rumors are rumors on this site. but over on thom's site... It is all fact!
OF course you need to take this all with a ton of salt, but take a look at the 2010 prediction page, he recently updated with what came through or not, and its clear that his "speculation" is above average.
All I hope is that the "24-105 f2.8" Is actually that 28-200mm f 2.8 they patented a while ago... but this is just thom guessing... As to canon starting to die tis true. Most of the canon users I know buy based of die hard canuts who are shocked once they try the nikon equiv. It's all legacy talk and video. Not much "real" photography anymore.
As to sony they need to continue witha semi traditional setup as I know a fairly large amount of sony users and they all are begging for the a700 and a900 replacement. The reason sony probably hasn't sold their "pro" dslrs like hotcakes is that they are still building up a reputation they dont have as many "first time cameras" start with the a230. Nikon however is almost synonymous with pro photography and has been for decades...
the problem for sony pro gear is on the supply side, their manufacturing costs are extremely high and while their gear is marginally successful, that division makes no money (or at least little enough that they are considering shelving it).
