I'm going to buy a SB flashgun but the imminent release of the SB-700 has given me a headache...pay extra for the new SB-700 or get a good deal on the SB-600, which is still a good flash but has a frustrating menu system and older technology.
If they were the same price then obviously I'd get the SB-700, but at the moment in the UK I can get the SB-600 for £175 compared to £260-£290 for the SB-700.
I'm still edging towards the SB-700 but if you see any good deals on the SB-600 could you post them as it would be really useful.
Thanks.
SB-600 deals because of SB-700 release...

Here in Canada, I noticed that there's a sale on the SB600 at Broadway Camera ($269.99CDN - $20.00 = $249.99CDN).
So I'd imagine there are deals to be found elsewhere.

I too am in Canada. I was in to see my local retailer yesterday, and he predicts that they will have the SB-700 in the store ~ November 17th.
I am willing to pay the extra $130 for the SB-700. The main reason is the easier to navigate menu.Regards,

i have been trying to figure out which of the two to get as well. I have seen a few good deals for the 600, but ive been told that the 700 will be easier for even a nooblet like me.

One thing to note if you're deciding between the two is that the SB-600 works in TTL mode on 35mm film bodies but the SB-700 won't...incase you use film aswell as digital.

I talked to a retailer today and was told that Nikon haven't given them a date for SB-700 stock and he doubts anyone would have any in the UK until late November.
And to complicate things further the SB-900 has dropped in price to £298...just £9 more expensive than the SB-700 ?Posted 2 years ago # -
Ok, recieved an email from Nikon today about the SB-700...the SB-700 will be available in "early December 2010" in the UK.
Lets hope it isn't delayed as there's a UK vat increase in January?Posted 2 years ago # -
i'm still awaiting news over here in the states, REALLY annoying to have to rent backup SB900s for events when i can just buy a bloody SB700. . . but I'll wait since I need something sightly lighter. . .

Wow what an amazing price for the SB-600 I paid $250 4 years ago. As wonderful as the Sb-600 has been I agree with t-mitch4 and pay the extra $130 for the new SB-700 unless you want to use that $130 to purchase the awsome 50mm 1.8 :)
Shivaswrath, the Sb-600 not enough zoom range for you? That does suck you have to wait so long I feel your pain. What kind of rental fees are you paying for the 900s?

I agonised over what flashgun to buy five months ago. http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=2141
With the help of NR members (thanks to all) I came to the conclusion that, for me, the SB900 was well worth the extra cost. The SB600 was criticised for its unfriendly menu system.
But I still haven't bought it, due both to its size and price. The SB700 now looks like the perfect compromise for me and I'm pretty sure I'll be one of the first UK buyers!

And to complicate things further the SB-900 has dropped in price to £298...just £9 more expensive than the SB-700 ?I buy mostly from Camerabox (UK based). They're currently listing the SB900 at £320, and the SB700 at £270. It pays to shop around!

I always check *Link Removed* for prices Anaxagoras, they're checked 3 or 4 times a day... for some reason Amazon UK prices can change hour to hour, so if you see a good deal I'd buy it there and then....it's like the stock market, buy...sell...buy.
RGB Photo have the SB-700 pre order price of £260, Martins Camera have the SB-900 at £310... just a case of waiting until the SB-700 is in stock and seeing what effect that has on the price of the others?Posted 2 years ago # -
Thanks for the tip, broxibear. I used to use that site some time ago, but I'd lost the link!
I've used Camerabox a few times - very reliable and nearly always next day delivery without any hassle. They're not always the cheapest, but they're pretty competitive on most things.
But we're stuck until the SB700 goes on sale. Late November.early December was the last I heard.

Found an online retailer who was selling the SB-900 for only £6 more than the SB-700 so decided to buy it before the price changed.

There are refurbished SB-600s going for $200 if you search them out. I have a 600 and although I do not use flash all that often it works well for me. I'll probably grab another 600 and the 700 for a cheap multi set up since I rarely use a full burst for surrounding lights and rarely need the extra zoom of the 900.

Yeah, I've seen a few good deals for new SB-600s, I wasn't intending to buy a SB-900 but the price was too good to pass by, I'd have kicked myself If I didn't buy it...at £6 (around $10 US) more than the SB-700 it's a no brainer.

According to dpreview Nikon Japan has announced its Speedlight SB-700 flashgun will be available from November 26 at a retail price of ¥44,100 (approx. US $450)
Not that I care anymore as my SB-900 arrives in a couple of days.Posted 2 years ago # -
Well, I stopped in to see the people at my local London Drugs camera department (Canada) and they still have no information regarding when they will have the SB-700.
They do not have the SB-700 in their computer system yet.
Darn. I sure would like to have this new flash before Christmas.

I just called Nikon Canada and asked them when the new SB-700 would be available.
The kind Lady told me that they were "back ordered".When I asked what that implied, and if the flash would be available for Christmas, she told me she doubted very much if any of there Canadian stores would have them before Christmas. :-(

Right now I think the best deal is on the SB-900 (subject to debate). For $100.00 more than the SB-700 you get faster recycle time and longer zoom flash coverage than the 700. Might be more flash than you need in most cases but at least it relieves you of that feeling of "I wish I had a slightly stronger flash." I don't yet have it but think I'm headed in that direction.
