and what was he using? Given that this was a park employee, i doubt he had a big 400mm lens...
But i wouldn't want to be him if he used a camera phone.
where there’s smoke there’s forum fire

Just a guess, but probably a crop. Even still, the employee was definitely close :-).
He was inside a vehicle shooting with his mobile phone.
And he let the poor animal suffer just so he could get the shot, instead of slowing down and giving the bison a ride !!! The park should fire that guy. :-)
Hmm. Bear is the aggressor and bison is entitled to peaceful enjoyment of like. I say use a taser on the bear, then enroll him in an anger management class.
An anger management class?! That's a dumb idea warprints. The bear should obviously be sent to the circus. There he'll learn to do more productive things with his life. Like ride a little bicycle through a ring of fire.
Oh, so you're some bleeding heart liberal that wants to coddle the criminal by saying, "oh, it's not your fault you were trying to maul that bison, you just had a bad upbringing. Lets give you this cushy little job and you're be a productive member of society." Niko, we need to crack down on wild animals and domesticate them all. But not by forcing them to perform embarassing activities. We need to teach them how to pick up trash along the side of the road. Just think of all the new photo opportunities !!!
I first thought that Niko didn't like the circus, and wanted to put an animal with a history of mauling things in there to spice things up, and teach those animal trainers a lesson.
I must say, a circus with marauding animals would be much more exciting and, dare I say, entertaining. Niko may be on to something.
Look at the Bison's skinned legs, thats a crazy shot! Looks its been to hell and back. 800 LB grizzley wow. Great shot, taken with a cell phone I'm sure.
Sure, any camera is better than none... but still, too bad he did not have a D700, D3S or high rez video.
Yes if he took the shot with an expensive camera it would have been quite the image for sure. The whole scene would have been nearly impossible to have predicted though so not easy. The guy was lucky to have gotten this high quality of a shot.
Why do so many see the bear as the "Bad Guy?" He's just having lunch on the run. Really, who could blame him? Have you tried bison? Its very good.

Imagine you are the bison... I never heard of bison eating people, grizzly on the other hand! So yes, bears are the bad boys and I agree with you, we are far worst.
Well, you cant really blame the bear. Have you ever had bison? As Samuel L Jackson said in Pulp Fiction, "Mmmhmm this is a tasty burger!"
My point is that life is messy and sometimes very cruel. Apex preditors are carnivors, The bear was running for dinner and the bison, his life. If you think this is unfair, turn your back to it; otherwise, choose a good Nikon camera and capture the parts you like. Live your life to its fullest daily. You never know when you may be the bison. This scene is of a 1600 pound bison resisting the attack of a 800 pound grizzly. Against great odds the bison fights to live. That is honorable. The bear is using all of his abilities to ensure his survival. That is honorable too.
Hi,
The story is posted at hkxlh grizzly-versus-bison-the-rest-of-the-story/?ref=nf
My best,
Mike
Well said, Treckie.
Just so you know the Bear is not always the lucky one
Note: These pictures was taken by a friend of my Father in northern Alberta and he is not sure the Bear survived

Here's all 16 shots the guy took:
Pete, those photos give me a whole new respect for cattle.
