Today I got my D7000 demo camera.
The first I did was to test the noise at different ISO.
Here is a noise test from ISO 100 to ISO 25600

This is my first post in this forum. Maybe I shall present myself.
My name is Janne Arleklint. I am 52 years old. I live i Sweden and work as consultant for Nikon as teacher in Nikon School.
welcome to the forum Janne
Welcome aboard Janne. Are those JPEGs taken right from the camera?
In yesterdays test i used JPG-format directly in the camera.
I had noise reduction set to "Normal".
I this pictures a set noise reduction i mode "Off"

Wow, the 12800 is much more usable than i had thought!
Its almost as good as 1600 on my D60, which i am forced to use quite often (night sports) and certainly better than 3200 for me.
thanks for the samples
Thanks Arlekint for the posts ; let me just add a point . D7000 performance surely looks good ; however , images of this size can be misleading especially if taken at not so low light .
Best way to test performance is to look at actually 1:1 crops - we are unable to see much detail in 72 dpi screens when it the image is so small .
Also it is a fact that high ISO does not form as much on relatively lit scenes and forms mostly on darker parts of low light images .Taking these photos in a near dark room - where you would really need the high ISO - might end up in different results .
Apologies in advance - if the room shots were taken was already dark enough ( and it just looks well lit in images ) :-)
With all respect, you have the possibility to click on my pictures to see them in 100% directly from the camera.
In latest post, I published some night pictures. Just to make it possible for you to see the noise in dark parts of an image.

Sorry , I wasn't aware the photos were full resolution .
I know one should not expect much from ISO 6400 but the full sizes & night photo shows quite the noise we are used to - maybe I am wrong.
With the sensor size increasing from 12 to 16 Mp , it should be considered a good job if they could keep the ISO performance at D90 & D300 levels .
A German photo forum asked me to do some night pictures at high ISO.
Here they are
