I had an interesting discussion with a group of photogs about whether you can be a "good" photographer and NOT travel. The majority said in order to learn and master photography you have to do a lot of traveling. You can't be a good photographer if you live in a small town and never go to the big city.
For example if you want to shoot street photography then you HAVE to travel to a larger city. Or if you want to be a good landscape photog then you have to travel the world shooting exotic locations. Their point was that all of the "great" photographers were travelers first and foremost and photographers second.
I'm not sure I totally agree but I think you can be a successful photographer if you find your "niche" and grow from there. I don't think it neccessarily means you have to travel the world. What do you guys think?
