I own a D80 and D300 at the moment. I seem to be having a problem with the D80's metering. Every once in awhile it will not allow me to use manual or apature priority metering. The only way I can change the apature is switch to shutter priority or program mode. Have tried the reset button and removing the battery "fix's". This worked once but now doesn't. Anyone have any suggestions beyond the obvious?

Have you upgraded to the newest Firmware? It can be found here: http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16091

If the D80 has a DoF preview button, what happens when you press it and S or P has picked an aperture tighter than max?

Thanks for the help!
acm332; I have the latest firmware installed.
Testing123; In A or M it will only stop down to 5.6 (using the DoF preview) In S or P, stops down to what the mode has chosen e.g f16.
Any other suggestions before I fire it off to Nikon?
Thanks in advance

Not sure that's an answer to the question I was asking...

use center weight metering instead of matrix, this should help

Testing 123; Sorry for the confusion. The camera chooses the apropriate apature when set in S or P, stops down to the apropriate apature with DoF. In M or A the apature remains "locked" at 5.6, while holding DoF and scrolling through the shutter speeds. No change in apature and unable to adjust the apature off of 5.6 while in M or A.
The Pred; Will try that tonight.
Regards.

Hi pgotog39, I don't know if you tried this already , but try using another lens and see if it happens with that too...if using another lens solves the problem then it's an issue with the way your body is connecting to your lens.
It could be the connectors need cleaned or they could be damaged ?Posted 2 years ago # -
Adanz, switch metering modes, no change still "locks" on apature.
Testing 123, thanks all the same. Every insight is worthy of a shot.
broxibear, all my lenses behave the same, cleaned / checked contacts to no avail.
Can anyone say "frustrated"?
Good thing I have this as a second body, my work horse for the time being is a D300. Upsetting that this has happened with only aprox 10,000 actuations on the body itself.

pgotog39, try reinstalling the firmware from a newly formatted memory card. It is possible something got corrupted. Update the A first, format the card, and update with the B. If that does not work, I guess it is back to Nikon it goes.

I had a quick search about D80 aperture problems and it seems a few people have a similar issue... http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=22342859
I'd get it to Nikon and ask for a repair estimate, hopefully the cost won't be too high or it may make better financial sense to buy another body?
It's one of the annoying things with DSLRs, when they go wrong there's so much electronics hardware jammed into the body it's expensive and time consuming to repair.Posted 2 years ago # -
pabjn, re-installed firmware with no luck....stii the same problem.
broxibear, I've been noticing those posts also. Wil box it up and ship it to Nikon, with so little use it will p*** me off if they come back with a rediculous repair cost. The camera has never been abused........
