Anyone have thoughts on how long it will take Apple to update the RAW converters in Aperture 3 for the D3100. I'm new to DSLR and am excited to see if I see a benefit to shooting RAW or JPEG for post processing.

It can take some time, wouldn't expect to see the update sooner than in 30days, although it took more time when nex5 was released.

Hi Adam,
I'm suggesting that a patch for Adobe Camera RAW (for all Adobe products) will be out very soon, possible this week.

Camera RAW updates for OSX (there isn't one specific to Aperture 3) usually come out a month or two after the camera is released. I suspect the next update will host a bunch of new cameras, so it might take three months this time around.
Just think about how many new cameras came out in August and September, Nikon D3100, D7000, P7000, Canon 60D, G12, S95, Pentax K-R, K-5, Panasonic NX100 and more, so it looks like the folks at Apple have a lot of work ahead of them adding RAW support for all those cameras.

And _if_ Microsoft buys Adobe, Apple-ites might have to be content with whatever Apple does for them.
There are rumbles in the jungle that future Photoshop, etc., will be Windows only...
Who knows?
My best,

And if Adobe/MS dropped Mac OSX support, they would lose at least a few million potential customers, not a good business move if you ask me.

Truly interesting thought, I can see Microsoft trying to do exactly that, but have a hard time believing the SEC would overlook something like that in their due diligence approving the merger. That would be a big whoops.

Adobe is the leader in most of the markets they serve, and in the case of Photoshop, there is no substitute that even comes close. What would a working pro do, keep with the product they know and switch to Windows, or settle for a less powerfull solution just to stay on OSX. Eventually somebody would fill the void, but the damage would be done by then. Remember, Microsoft proved to IBM that it is the software that makes the computer, not the hardware.

Sure, some might switch, but that is assuming that those said users only are invested in Photoshop/Adobe products. There already are alternatives, much cheaper ones at that, but they just aren't mainstream, partly because Photoshop is multi-platform.

I agree that the SEC would have a tough time allowing that merger.
However, even if Photoshop would leave OSX, it's not like existing copies of Photoshop will stop working. I agree that they would lose a ton of customers. Stay with the version I have and support the platform I choose by supporting a developer on my platform to develop a competing product, or jump ship to Windows and abandon all the other software I own to purchase the newest Photoshop. Nah, I'll stick with a platform that actually works when I need it to.

Aperture 3.1 upgrade is excellent. Fixed multitude of issues, speed being number one along with crashes. I'm now a happy camper.

Any one out there with extensive experience in Aperature 3 slideshows compared to iPhoto slideshows?? I tried Aperature 2 but was very unimpressed. Some attributes i see for Aperature 3 have used features the older version of iPhoto used to have.
