After looking carefully at the high-ISO samples posted on the blog, I'm thinking the D7000 at ISO 256,000 looks about like my old D100 did at ISO 800, and that might be too kind to the D100. We are in gear heaven right about now (well, I'll join gear heaven when I get my hands on my D7000).

I'm having trouble importing the D7K raw files into lightroom 3.
It tells me the files come from an unsupported camera, tried update but it says no update.Posted 2 years ago # -
Try your Nikon View NX2. you may have to use that until Lightroom releases the update that supports the D7000.

These are the joys of living on the cutting edge, Obed. It took them about three months to release an update that supported the NEX-5. It was pretty infuriating to wait.

I seriously doubt it will be that long for the D7000. For one thing, they're due for another release with more lens profiles soon anyway, and it seems like Adobe has a better working relationship with Nikon than with Sony. From past updates of Lightroom 1 and Lightroom 2, I'd guess you won't have to wait more than a couple of weeks before they add support.
I think there are hacks out there if you're that type of person. Something about changing the metadata so that lightroom thinks it was taken by a camera it supports, if I remember right. Not workflow friendly, but if you just want to see how it does with them it might be fun.

Considering this is the fist appearance (that I am aware of) of this sensor, I don't believe you'll get very good results by faking LR. Lying to it that your D90 is a D300 or your D80 is a D200 will be nearly perfect, but this is different.

You could also use the in-camera raw processing to convert NEF to jpeg.
Totally forgot that I couldn't open the NEFs but luckily was able to use this method to get some .JPGs.

Damnit, this is the bad part about getting a brand new camera: the software doesn't support it.
I hope premiere's DSLR 1080p video will work well with the D7000's
I definitely want to use lightroom 3 with my D7000 pics

Hi,
NX Liveview will work, which is some consolation, and Adobe Camera Raw will like update to 6.3 any day for all versions of LR, PS, etc., and Premiere will certainly handle H.264.
Of course, I have the email from Amazon and the $25 discount. Call me "Lucky".

My original thread was closed, as I thought that would require a separate thread than just some favorite settings on the D7000.
I'm sure most would be using this setting in situations where the opportunity knocks once while setting takes time to capture the best picture, while D7000 gives us a pre-defined mode for us to use the perfect setting with just flip of a dial rotation of U1 and U2 settings.
Just wanted to know how people are using the U1 and U2 preferences with the D7000.I know it depends on each individual preferences but,I mean to say, what was the setting used for the type of expected picture or scenario.
Examples :
1.) Low light indoor pet photography
2.) Fast moving objects like Jets , Cars , Mopeds
3.) Macro modes to take pictures of Insects , small animals etc...etc

My thought was to use U1 as a base setting for stationary photos and U2 as a base for faster moving shots but I haven't worked out yet. Must say I'm a little stymied using all these *buttons* instead of menus....

Yeah, the manual on pg 281 says it uses the MC-DC2 plugged into the GPS port. That's the same as the D90, so non-IR third party remotes for the D90 should work for it, too. I'm planning on using my Phottix Plato with my D7000.

So dumb question, probably no real answer but after messing around with the Manual mode for so long, I can't figure out how to get it back to a default setting. Any idea what it's set at in M?

I still haven't decided what I want to do with the 2 user modes. I keep thinking that I want to set U1 for family, kids, etc...general use.
Settings I'm thinking of starting with are:
Shutter priority
39 Pt manual focus
Center weighted metering
auto ISO max 6400
High ISO Norm
Active D-Lighting Auto
1/200 shutter speed
Large Fine JPEG
White Balance Auto A2
Picture Control Portrait
Auto Distortion OnAnyone using these yet?

Manual mode
HIGH ISO NR - NORM
PICTURE CONTROL - Standard with Sharpness/contrast all the way down
Active D Lighting off
ISO - Manual

I am wondering if I will be able to set it up to hold the mirror up for a sequence of three exposures for HDR at +1 EV? If not maybe delayed shutter mode?
