noise levels look comparable to the D90 at 800 ISO. . .which is actually pretty good given it went UP 4 mpx!

Exciting news! I am less worried about buying this camera on launch.
Sounds like the AF system isn't any better than what we've seen on previous pro cameras. Overall, sounds like a good camera, but not a huge leap forward either.
I think what it says that the author is of opinion that the new 39-point-system is perhaps not as sensitive as the one in D700/D300, but still quite good. I think the metering system though is next generation to D300/D700, but he does not address how the metering differs from the D300/D700 system.
The fence (in full daylight) at 6400 is very very impressive.
I don't know that the D7000 is a "pro" camera. So the fact that it matches pro camera AF capabilities IS amazing.
This is what he (via google translate) had to see on the AF of the D7000:

That's not hard considering that the camera closest to it price wise is the 60D, which uses an entry level AF system. It is a big step up for Nikon mid range cameras, I'll admit that, but it isn't a leap forwards as some thought it would be.
Personally i think it is absurd to take 3-4 lines of google translated review and even begin to make a comparison to any other AF system, especially when the reviewer made no comparisons or any mention on how much time he really spent testing it or the methods used, all we know is the reviewer really seemed to like it.
Let some sports photogs, or some birders have it for a weekend, then we will know how good it is.
for all we know this still may be the holy grail of AF systems, or slightly better than the D90's af system
The reviewer made some posts in the comment section when asked, and he said that it was almost as good as the D300s's AF system.
which would be pretty sweet, seeing as how im coming up from a D90.
None the less, i think AF testing is something that would require quite a bit of time shooting sports or fast moving wildlife like birds to get a solid idea of how well it performs, there are so many factors, lighting, subject, background, speed, etc. There is no mention to the type of testing that was done. With as little as was said about it i would expect this was more of a first impression type thing.
other reviewers probably wont go that far either.
it would be nice though, i think the best review on AF will be with the customers using it on a regular basis.
given that the D7000 has started shipping (at least in the US) I wonder when the first in depth reviews are commming in - how long does dpreview or alike normally take to do such an review ?
