perhaps, but the ebay one was the same size as the nikon, and as such worth the "investment"
    lol.

Well I don't think the 16$ for the Nikon remote is really breaking the bank but to each his own.

I just think, we bought Nikon's for a reason so why not buy the Nikon brand when we can.

I mean I would love the Nikon 17-55 but I can't afford it so in my eyes the next best thing was the Tokina 16-50 but if I had the cash, I would buy 100% Nikon.

you're right, but the remote is exception, not the rule.

for example look at the GPS unit. Or the AC power supply. completely ridiculous

I had the 17-55 2.8, great lens, awesomely balanced on pro bodies, but Nikon really needs some nano coating or something in it. . .I upgraded to the 24-70 2.8 on FX, and the color rendition is much better. . .odd. . .

^ Thank God somebody said it...

Really hoping that late October 29th date is for outside the US only, lol... Would really like it for our Military Ball on the 22nd to show off, lol. Like I said earlier, I must've been early enough in the pre-order line on Amazon to get first shipment, at least I hope so (ordered within two hours of it going up). All these people on here and other places saying they're going to order it in the next couple days will surely have a much longer wait then late-October/November from what Ive seen so far.

Usually the first shipments aren't very large...usually. Nikon isn't a "large" company so they often have a hard time keeping up with a big demand and everyone already knows the D7000 is going to be huge. I remember it was months before the D300 was readily available.

Well I am going on a trip on October 25 so I am probably out of luck on getting the D7000 before my trip. Unless I walk onto one in my local BB in the 3d week of October. However BB will only have kits and who wants to pay $300 more for 18-105, which you can buy for $200 everywhere. So I am not sure, if I should even get D7000, or maybe I should take advantage of everyone dumping their D90s these days (my craigslist has like 20 of them, plus everywhere else) and get D90 with 18-200VR for pretty much the same price as new D7000.

Playing devil's advocate for a minute, given that they've got to already know that the 7000 is going to be huge, I'd hope that they'd ramp up production accordingly.

Man, I hope you're right. I preordered 6am on the 15th. I hope that wasn't too late to receive it on the first round. I've waited a long time to upgrade (I'm upgrading from a D70s) and I'm about ready to exploded waiting for this thing.

If the factory can only produce say 1000 cameras a day then that's all they can produce. The only thing Nikon can do to increase production is to keep the factory running 24/7 which will cut into their profits or they can build another factory. They aren't going to build another factory. Nikon gear is always in short supply.

I'm so upset at myself for not pre-ordering a D7000 so far. It's my 1/2 century Bday gift to my self, the new Ferrari will have to wait. :-( I will be one happy camper when I get my hands on it. Being looking at many makes and models and finally realized that the search was over. I <3 how there is a button for most functions and don't need to enter the menus as often. I will be ordering the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II as my primary lens. Thanks to the comments posted on other treads, I've decided to stick to a Nikon lens. In the mean time I'll be also buying a new Manfrotto ball head for my 20 year old Bogen tripod(still looks/works great). Believe it or not this will be my first digital camera, I'm happy that just as I decided to buy the D90(over the Canon T2i) the replacement rumors made me wait.(thank you Nikon Rumors)

So everyone stop placing pre-orders worldwide. I need my birthday gift by early November.

I need mine before the week of October 25. I pre-ordered mine from amazon. If I can't get it before October 25, I'll cancel the order because I am going on a trip and that was the point. Those who on previous occasions had ordered from amazon, from your experience, how are they in relationship to others retailers in terms of getting cameras, do they usually get earlier than others, later than others, at the same time?

I have no prior experience with Amazon. But, I hope the D7k gets released by Nikons 30 day time frame. I believe the D3100 and earlier recent models usually began shipping around 30 days after announcement. So I'm still counting on a 15-16th of October release date in USA. but I'm not getting my hopes up with all these other release dates. Amazon UK is Oct 25th, Nikon Japan is Oct. 29th, and Bestbuy Estimates 17-23rd.

Watched a video that had this dude from Nikon UK and he said the camera and the battery grip come out on October 29th.

So does that mean we get it earlier than that or the same date?

Because it would be awesome if I had this camera for a Halloween Party!

But now things are muddled again with bestbuy claiming 17th-21st.

back to waiting i guess, though my local dealer for some reason claimed that he might be getting it this week.

most probably misinformed, but i can hope...

I inquired at a few online retailers and they did respond with an estimated first shipment of D7000 in 3 weeks... so that falls in line with Best Buy. We'll see!

This is all very encouraging news! Keep it coming!

Maybe we'll all be surprised, and find that Nikon may have really upped their manufacturing volume for this product in preparation for its much-anticipated launch, expecting it to be a big hit (and, actually counting on it to be a big hit, as witnessed by its "overly pro" specs). Was the D90 initially sold through big box retailers like Best Buy at its launch also?

I'm not sure about the D90, but the Canon 60D definitely appeared at Best Buy even before some of the big online retailers, so it's possible that they are a high priority for Nikon as well. What kills the Best Buy purchase is the sales tax for me...

For those looking for a price break, don't forget about Fatwallet Cashback or Ebates... you can probably score 1-3% off the launch price!

Same here esteve... sales tax is nearly 10% in Oklahoma, which is why I went with online.

Apparently some guy on DPReview is stating that Amazon will be getting their D7000's in on Oct 11th...

Pre-Ordered body only at the local camera store (Penn Camera) and I am pretty sure I was first in line. The card I used over the phone canceled the $1200 charge because they suspected fraud or something. Next day I RAN over to the store to charge again and without even asking my name, grabbed my pre-order slip!

I am leaving for London on November 2. I hope to god that it comes out before then because:

    1) I sold all my Canon gear
    2) Just picked up the 24-120 f4 today :D

I wonder if Bestbuy will sell the body only without the kit.
