i'm expecting it to cost about 31 000 yen. the sb-600 is 21 000 and the sb-900 is 41 000. somewhere in the middle of those after its new release price comes down.

shame about the radio port, but it still look very nice. i doubt i will wait long to get one.
My guess is a $329 sale price for the SB700 - which puts it right in the middle of the SB900 & SB600 prices. It should steal market share from each of those units, but mostly from the SB900. If the SB-600 is discontinued, it'll be in serious demand for $225+ while supplies last.
Nah I'm waiting for the SB1000. That's going to be 300 times better.
I'm totally getting one if it's 25 times better than an SB-28. I think the blog said $300 for the price, but I could have been dreaming.
I love the apparent feature set. If it's i-TTL only, though, I won't do it. Not all of us can afford a F6.
300 would be a nice price for this flash. This flash is worth selling the ole sb600...that thing always goes into standby!
I'm emotionally attached to my SB-600 and its quirky UI. I feel like I'm a member of the SB-600 illuminati or something because I know how to navigate its menu system (MOVE! Just press these two buttons and hold for 2 seconds, press this other button three times until a flashing ??? is displayed and then press these other buttons simultaneously three times while saying aloud "there's no place like home"—there, you're in wireless CLS mode. Was that so hard?).

That's nice that it actually comes with the color filter kit. I'll be getting one of these when my aging SB600 finally kicks the bucket.

am i the first to notice the 700 has a lower guide number than the 600?
doesnt worry me much though.
i'm going to take plenty of on camera pro shots with this. the sb-900 bends the hotshoe on the d700 with heavy use, making it almost useless.
off camera doesn't matter about the hotshoe, but still i don't see much need for a 900 (try 2 or 3 700 instead)
FINALLY ! Kino knows what I mean. Geesh. Of course I've already added the extra flash I needed. Question is, will I get an SB700? Not until I need yet another flash. But it does look really nice. I think I like Jonnyapple's postion - I've gotten used to the wird and differing menues and buttons on the SB600s and SB800s,and we can now start a secret society of photographers that know the obscure rituals needed to operate these speedlights.
Not really. I am not going to overpay for the ui itself. I currently have 2 sb 600s and one sb800. Replacing them with ewer models would be too costly with little gain in actual capabilities of the flash units.
I have used Sb900 numerous times and I loved it, it's ui was fantastic, and if the money wouldn't be a problem for me I would get one or two. But the reality is different.
I wouldn't mind giving it a try. But I haven't done any flash photography, so...

I have 2 SB900s and 2 sB800s and the 900s are ficky about their thermal cut outs during usage, but the CLS is a dream when using one of the bigger units instead of the onboard flash, so yeah, I'm interested.
I've been looking at Metz's AF 58, a bigger output, and not much more cash. I don't know how the handling will be.

$329 is rather steep - $299 intro would've have been competitive, and then watch it trickly to $229. . .
A SB900 has far more pitch and reach i believe and is "only" $100 more. . .
Hmmm, me thinks I'll wait - I'd like to get a pair of SB700's, but I'd like to NOT spend more than 1 SB900 (does that make sense?!)
