So today I put the body of my d5000 on ebay . I am going to upgrade to the new d3100. It looks like I will be giving up the 4 shots per sec and go to the 3 shots per sec. Also will loose the swivel display.

My gain will be more megapixels ( Who cares) But the real gain for me is video autofocus which I think is awsome.

The best part is I do not expect the upgrade to cost me anything. I will see the d5000 body for about $5000. Purchase the kit on the 3100 for $699 then sell the kit lens for about $150 so in the end it will cost me about $50

nope D3100 isn't replacement of D5000.it has no AEB(Auto bracketing ) and IR port has been removed (ML=L3 won't work with D3100).

    ayway congrats .

I'm interested to hear your thoughts after you try the D3100 since you know the D5000 because I know someone's going to ask me if it's worth it to 'upgrade' sometime.

Yes keep us posted because the specs make the D3100 a very interesting camera!

Good luck. I don't shoot any video really so it wouldn't be worth it to me, but hope it works out for you. I am interested in seeing how it performs though.

Well benalexe, it looks like all eyes are on you to let us know your thoughts of the D3100. I can't say that I'd put up my existing camera until I had my new one in hand, but that's just me. Wish you the very best, and yes, tell us your thoughts.

according to my calculations, based on your sales plan that you gave, you should earn $4451 on the deal. ;)

are you sure you can get $5K for your old camera?

Funny about the 5K. I am selling it now. If It sells I may wait to see the d90 replacement before jumping on the 3100. I really want the auto focus video.

Good luck but I doubt you will get $500 for it Benalaxe . A new D5000 kit goes around $600 these days in major retailers , body only $520 or so ...
