NPS' D-Movie and Multimedia Event at UCLA, 24 August 2010:

Nikon USA did a great job! Award-winning, Sports Illustrated staff photographer Bill Frakes, and "visual storyteller," Laura Heald presented an impressive array of multimedia D-Movie and still work, all shot with the Nikon D3s. Their D3s multimedia work can be seen each week online at si.com. An iPad edition of the magazine is available for paid download as well.

Wraps, sodas, cheese, ham, and delicious cookies were laid out!

Bill showed off his cool Cinevate "slider" dolly.

Bill and Laura shared lots of information about their tools, techniques, and their D-Movie workflow.

Ohhh fresh fruit too! Nice! I remember when Laura was "just" Bill's photo assistant. She must be doing very well now. Good for her :^)

Well let's just say I doubt I'd be spending so much time with any of my assistants unless I really really liked them ;-)

Nice. Cinevate is a little company here in my hometown of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. From what I hear they're growing rapidly, good to see some locals do well!

Well, Laura just looked lovely! Bill's a lucky guy to have a co-worker that's so easy on the eyes.

    Nikon D3s Workflow with FCP:

Bill mentioned that he would tend to do the photo editing, and Laura would do the video editing in Apple Final Cut Pro. For those interested, he said he would share his D3s workflow with anyone who asked, if you contacted him through his site (which I don't what it is at the moment). Interestingly, they said that they do not transcode the D3s files into Apple ProRes (said it was too time-consuming). Not sure what they do to get the files into FCP.
