Where's the advantage if you're out-resolving your lenses?

;)
But, to be serious, one will almost assuredly always be better than the other. The greatest problem I see with super-density sensors is for landscape and macro shooters. Anyone who routinely tightens their aperture will start trading in resolution for depth-of-field more quickly as the diffraction point creeps lower and lower.

The same thing was said about lenses not being able to "resolve" higher than 12mp and that the megapixel "race" was over etc, etc.
This announcement is adding more fuel to the "canon is going to buy Pentax and develop a medium format camera" rumor.
