no shortage of anything in japan...
where there’s smoke there’s forum fire
I'm staying up whatever night it is. It's not much of a staying up since I'm two hours behind eastern time, though.
tomorrow night? I thought it was going to be announced on the 15th.
Hmmmm...slotted between the d90 and d300s...looks like it'll be a worthy replacement then, huh? I wonder if DX will be consumer line only then with demise of the d300s?
Hi people, I am new to the forum ... Greetings to you all ... I just want to say that I am in the market for a new DSLR and I am as nervous about the new "D7000" as a little boy at his first day of a new school year ... I can't wait to see the new Nikon ... Hopefully it wont be a disappointment like the 60D for the Canon lovers ...
BlackWolF: Welcome to the forum. You'll find you're in good company, especially as regards the anticipation over the D7000. Given the rumored specs, I highly doubt it'll be a disappointment (as long as they don't screw up on IQ, which I kinda doubt), but at any rate, we'll be finding out very, very soon.
I thought the D7000 was going to be announced on Sept 15 not 14??
And NOW ONTO THE MAIN EVENT.......
Yeah. Should be around 12:01 AM EST, same as the last announcement, so it's just a matter of staying up a bit later tomorrow.
Greetings everyone,
Just wanted to say I'm new here but I've been reading the forums for quite awhile. I've been using a D3000 for a year now, and I'm in full anticipation for this D7000. I've really stepped up my photography but consider myself an Amateur still and I was eying up a D90. But I have a good amount of money put away. So I think I'll be in line for the D7000 when it's announced. So i'll be up at midnight hoping all that is rumored and more meet reality and price. So here's wishing to an exciting Tuesday night!
-Joe
I don't think I will be able to stay up for the announcement lol, although I would love to but I guess I will wait until I am up in the morning and then go take a look at the good news (hopefully) ... Can not wait to see all the reviews though ...
Hi all, been reading the forum for a while but joined up today - eagerly awaiting the D7k - Have a D50 that I've had for nearly 5 Years and I feel its upgrade time !!! was buying a D90 until I found out this was due soon !!
Enjoy
When do these releases usually become available for purchase? How soon after announcement do these items show up in retail stores? I'm dying to get my hands on it & would to know what Nikon has been like in the past for announcement - in stores timelines.

From reading past rumors and their release. They typically show up on the shelves about a month after announcement is what I've gathered. So I would imagine the D3100 would hit the shelves sometime next week.
One thing is for sure, I don't think they will be available for purchase before Photokina.
That would mean we should see the D7000 on shelves midway next month. It may be wishful thinking, but I hope the D7k hits the streets before then, I'd like it to catch some wonderful Fall foliage this year. But I can imagine Nikon doesn't want to compete with itself and release two cameras at the same time, though the two cameras appeal to two semi-different audiences, they both can appeal to beginners. But I doubt the D7k will suck up any beginners from the D3100, it's one of the best I've seen. I know I've really enjoyed my D3k. But I'm glad I started out on it before I went a little more skillful.

I asked the same question today to a camera salesman and he told me that for his shop it's usually between 1 month and 1 month and a half.. I'm in Canada.
Body - lens - body - lens - body - lens - flash - body - lens... AHhhhhh why do they release so much at the same time?!?
I for one would really like it as a solid d90 successor. With the same, or even lower price tag (at start of course). Both Canon, and Nikon seem to be doing two different things (Canon going more amateur with it's 50D->60D, Nikon supposedly more pro with D90->D7000).
We'll see what tommorow brings!
I just saw the pictures on the "blog" here ... I am drooling while I write this lol ... And yes I am greedy I wish it had a front view of the camera too ... damn, if that is close to real then it will be (in my humble opinion) a very nice looking body ... I want one ... Thank you Admin for the nice find and preview ...
Maybe this will cause people to massively abandon their D90's so I can pick one up for cheap.... haha I wish
Another juicy morsel of information from the admin. Thanks. These have kept me going for the last 6 months or more !
I'll looking forward to the 3 course meal coming real soon...
Ok so.. here's the picture again:

This is more like a D90 upgrade that offers more features than expected. Notice the mode dial with the other dial behind it.. that's better than nothing.. but I wish my future camera didn't have those shitty automatic modes that I'll never use.. I use aperture mode at most.
But now look at this. My ISO and WB button are more like the D90... I hoped they kept the D300 way of doing this one..
WHERE IS THE AF-ON BUTTON?? NOOOOO
In order to gain video and better low light now, I lose af-on, my iso and wb buttons, possibly a 100% viewfinder (hard to believe the d7000 will have this).. and what else? I guess I'm gonna have to do this compromise.

I hear ya. The 7000 is a beautiful camera, but the 90 is still no slouch... and the price difference could be put toward lenses, speedlight, et cetera. For me, coming from a P&S, even the 90 would be a HUGE step-up. Much as I would like the 7000, if I can find a re-furbed or lightly used 90 (surely the latter must exist somewhere outside my imagination) I may go with that instead.

They look like they used a D90 chassis and then crammed all that stuff on. It looks a bit cramped in my opinion, but interesting nevertheless.
I am leaning the same direction ... a D90 ... I probably wont be able to afford the D7000 :( ... But hey, the way I see it is, going from NO dslr to a D90 (or D3100) is a HUGE step for little ol' me ... but who knows, maybe if I have the patience and save a little longer ... man, the choices and dilemma's lol ... Of course, if you look at it, if I buy the much cheaper D3100 (D90) I can spend some more on nice glass ... Ok, enough, this is giving me a damn headache lol

I'd get a D3100 then.. I think its the same price as a D90 right? it's a good way to start with the latest technology from nikon..
Ideally, you could get a much cheaper D60 used and invest your budget on lenses.
