Whenever I look at the Admin's post comments, everyone's excited about the ISO performance of the D3100 and D90 but I don't see anyone commenting about EXPEED 2...... Or is it just me?

Nah, I'll get excited when I see dual EXPEED3 processors on the D5 ;^)

Yes, it's just you.
Kidding. I think that the reason you're hearing more excitement over ISO is because we have an idea what 12,800 ISO versus, say, 400 ISO means (though it's going to be interesting to see what kind of noise performance you get in the higher ISO settings). On the other hand, nobody's going to know the difference the EXPEED2 is going to make for either camera 'til they get their hands on one.
Or maybe it's just me. :)

A new or improved processor architecture isn't going to make a huge difference in every day photography, which might be why people aren't overly excited about it. The real benefits of a new CPU would be in how fast the menu system works, and for faster in camera RAW editing.

No idea what it gives us. for that matter I have no idea what expeed 1 gives us so more of what I dont know leads to more unknown benefits :-) which means we have double the unknowns! LOL!

LOL!I thought it may improve color definition or something like that... I've always thought Nikon cameras tend to have trouble defining bright color skin after EXPEED appeared.. although ofcourse, it can be fixed in photoshop.

Thats one of the minor reasons I did not get that generation of Nikons. However, the D3S was nice. So hoping the D90 replacement will have nice colours too. but I dont think EXPEED versions has much to to with colour definition. I think you can actually upload your own colour profiles into the D700/D300 etc...

Colour has more to do with the image sensor that the processor, and in the case of the referenced cameras the real change was CCD vs CMOS sensors.

Yes we are spoiled I guess now thanks Nikon! Iso performance is the way to go. The images I have seen from the D3s are incredible and seemingly impossible to get. No wonder Nasa chose it for the work in space. With the the D3x and D3s out there I don't think Nikon is in any hurry whatsoever to release any other FX bodies. D700 replacement people like me will be waiting till we are old and gray I think. D90 shooters must be happy as the replacement might surpass the current D700.
Nikodoby EXPEED 3 would be outstanding! Those might be the future slide film equivalent days or a medium format D maybe^^

I hope it will bring better high ISO noise.

johnny, agreed. C41 35mm film has been surpassed or almost in dynamic range by a camera like the D3s.

I assume that most of the image color space and other attributes come mainly from the sensor, so I wouldn't expect any image quality enhancements, per se, based on just a new processor alone. However, if EXSPEED2 considerably speeds up RAW capture, processing, and writing speeds, then I may be able to shoot RAW more frequently, as a matter of course. That alone would be a great improvement in enabling more-frequent, higher-quality, image-making, in and of itself.

I believe the D3s surpasses print film as does the D3x and possibly numerous other cameras such as the 5D Mark II however, slide film still cannot be duplicated I believe. The cameras we have right now do not offer enough of a balance between high resolution and outstanding ISO performance to equal slide film. Instead you either get high resolution in the D3x or amazing iso performance in the D3s. At 25mp or so I think we see images equal to print film. The D3s clean high ISO performance allows for less mp and still be able to have images comparable to print film because digital noise is controlled better with its sensor.

To be excited we need to see pictures i.e ISO performance from D3100 .right now its all talk and we have no clue how D3100 benefits from this new Expeed2 :D

I always shoot raw so I don't think a processor upgrade is going to do a whole lot that I will be able to see. We will be able to see the higher fps, but since we are getting a new sensor as well it might be hard to make a comparison with EXSPEED1. Thats why I am kind of "meh" for EXSPEED2 anyways.
