Yes this is real
It's probably not very good for your eyes, either. Good to know, though!
Ouch. Bet that'll cost a pretty penny.
Wow, camera makers are going to have to make special filters to protect the sensors from lasers, or band/show photographers could loose a lot of cameras!
So, how is it that repeated scans by the laser in the second video does not create more and more bad sections? The first pass appears to kill a row of pixels, but the next 16 passes doesn't bother the sensor at all?
Are those actually lasers? You can't shoot lasers at people (due to eye damage), so why are they sweeping the crowd with those?
There was only one perfectly aligned pass that burned the pixels on the sensor. The previous and subsequent passes weren't aligned to the camera sensor even though it seems as though they would be. Yes those are real lasers. Your mom wasn't joking when she said not to play with lasers!
Good to know, i am happy that they shared their unfortunate episodes with us. Now our little cameras won 't break.
@Jorpet:
There are different classes of lasers and a class 1 laser is OK (but daft) to look at and so OK with camera sensors. You would kind of hope that those public use lasers would be safe....
How do you know that vid is real Niko?
Maybe its just Canon sensors that can get zapped! :-)
