Hello. This is my first post. I am a new owner of a D5000 and a new user of NX2 software. When I attach my camera directly to my computer it does not show up under folders in NX2 or ViewNX. My D40 shows up in both, however. Is there some kind of incompatibility issue between the two?
I can put my memory card in a card reader or put the photos in a folder on the desktop and access them that way but it would be much easier to just hook the camera directly to the computer.
I contacted Nikon support and didn't really get much of an answer except to download the update which I did, nothing changed.
Any ideas, suggestions, insights?
Thanks so much.

Open Nikon transfer, under the source tab make sure that in the "search for" drop down box, "cameras" is checked, and under the Preference tab "launch automatically when device is attached" is checked.

Thanks for the reply. I really don't want to use Nikon Transfer or ViewNX to save space on my computer. I would rather view and edit my photos with Capture NX2 only but my D5000 is not listed under Folders.
When I connected my D40 it was listed under Folders in NX2 which seemed odd to me. That is why I'm wondering if there is some kind of compatibility issue with the D5000.
Does anybody else with a D5000 have this same problem?? Thanks again.Posted 2 years ago # -
Welcome to the forum, Josie. The only option for the USB mode in the D5000 is PTP, so it connects as a camera only and not as a drive. The D40 can do both mass storage or PTP (or MTP?). That might be the problem. I don't think Nikon Transfer takes very much space, though.

I appreciate all of you taking the time to reply.Posted 2 years ago # -
