If the D90 replacement is a D90s with improved AF in video/live view and the likes do you think it's possible they will upgrade the firmware on the D90 like they did with the D70 when the D70s came out?
I don't really care about more MP, but the ability to AF in video/live view intrigues me.
The D70S was basically the same camera with a few minor upgrades than the D70. The D90 replacement will be a totally new camera so NO there won't be any new "miracle" firmware announced at the same time.
yeah i think things like Auto AF using contrast detection are WELL beyond the scope of a firmware update. . .sucks, but hey, at least D90 owners (ahem myself included) get "some" video on the dSLR. . .
Was a HUGE reason for me not to invest in a D3s currently, I knew the AF ability had to be around the corner (which would attenuate the jello effect, hopefully), so why drop the $$$ on a crippled pro body that i wouldn't use for video anyhow? the D90 is just as good, lol. . .
Rolling shutter (jello effect) doesn't have anything to do with autofocus though shivas. It's a characteristic of using a CMOS sensor.

The D3S still has the jello effect. It's just kept under better "control" by software. It's still noticeable if you look for it though.
It’s been more than 2 years since D90 was introduced, although it’s still a highest selling DSLR today, there are bound to be some nick knacks to iron out in the firmware.
I hope they release a firmware update soon to make it more robust, so that users keep the D90 as a second body.
I don’t know why I say this here, but I want to say it anyway: When I was using my P&S Nikon P6000, it had a fabulous feature a customizable user1 and user2 settings on the PSAM mode dial itself. I was able to set those two to any mix of settings that I would use frequently.
For example if I was shooting a basketball game indoors, and found that the following settings worked well for action shots, I could set user1 to: 1/800s, f/2.8, ISO 400, WB=Incandescent, NR = off, VR = Off, Matrix metering, Distortion = off, etc.
Whereas I could set user2 to following settings for non-action shots in the game: 1/25s, f/2.8, ISO 200, WB = Auto, NR = off, VR = off, Spot Metering, distortion = off, etc.
How do users manage their set of favorite settings on D90?
I'm the wrong person to ask, Nikoner, because I prefer the My Menu of the D90 to the settings banks of the D300. I'm the kind of person that will forget that I'm in bank A (or what settings bank A has changed) and screw up a whole lot of shots. Somehow when I know I'm in charge of changing things individually I do a better job. I know others would have different opinions, but the My Menu and an assignable button (Fn) is all I need.
I think it is unlikely. Firmware updates are usually made to correct broken features. There really isn't anything broken with the D90. Sure they may be a few little things here and there that could be better, but they are still functionally sound.
You should have a doctor look into that. It's probably an STD.
