I would say any current DX Nikon cameras D3000, D5000, D300s but knowing what I seen here on forums when we see D90 replacement - all will be recommended is that replacement + 35mm f1.8 and all other DX cameras forgotten again....

For the D90 replacement to be tempting is if they can improve high iso performance / low light. I feel at this time images from D90, D5000 and D300s so close in iq that only difference in between choosing in these is what features, controls you feel you need. The FX D700 is the only noticeable jump in pic quality due to full frame sensor.

Hmm here are some specs I just heard of for the "D7000".

16MP DX sensor with 26 AF points. 100-1600 ISO sensitivity (plus Hi & Low etc) 1080p @ 24 fps. Available(? or perhaps they mean announced) in early September 2010.

    My wish list:

    ISO up to 12800
    High noise handling capabilities
    AF fine tuning
    16 - 24 MP sensor
    7-8 fps

But again, it's just a wish. No harm to put more in it. :)

I would be real happy with the nex sensor in the D90. ie small increase in MP and significant high ISO capability.

I was going to wish for carbon fiber something but that's so last decade. If it's this decade I'm going with a built in mobile phone, gps, web browser, and email. or at least a D700 with a DX sensor and video. But I would be happy with a tazer...

"you got the touch....you got the poweeeer, yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!"/stan Bush

Im so happy...xD a month and a half for annoucement!(photokina likewise), I just hope announcement means availability, and we wont have to wait till december or something. However, even if we have to, I presume Nikon is gonna corner ther marker once and for all with this release.
My expectations are 5-6 fps at least (i dont think they would do 7 fps at all on this one, I really think Nikon would get us 18 mp (18.3 or something) just to piss Canon off, cause many consumers get cameras based on mp. 26 af points?, I really hope so Nikodoby and I think 1024 video is a must fot this upcoming baby. Anyhow, is good to know Nikon will take over once again..xD

That sensor has already been out for I think about a year. Maybe even more, and Nikon hasn't used it. It was thought that it could have shown up in the D300S but it didn't. What would be the point of a 2mp increase? Especially since that sensor doesn't even match the current D90's 12mp sensor. I'd rather they improve noise, dynamic range etc. and keep the 12mp sensor. But that's not going to happen. I think we'll see a 16 or 18mp replacement instead.

If you think they'll do 6fps then why not 7? Can you really tell the difference?

Why would that piss canon off? They already have a bunch of cameras that have 18 or more megapixels. We'll still hear all of the crying over why Nikon chose 16mp when canon offers 18 or more for "cheaper".

Nikon does have a way of working magic with those Sony sensors, Niko, so performance might be better even with the NEX one.

I see your point niko, why not 7 when you can do 6....But that i would say the same thing with D90 and D5000, D90 has 4.5 and D5000 has 4, is not about telling the difference at all. I meant 18 mp exactly for the reason you so well pointed out "to many people crying about 16 and not 18 mp" i think is the chance to nikon to "stop that crying" that's all...Is just a point of view, i can be wrong, after all you are the experts..hehe

Yes I know that but what I'm saying is why work their "magic" on a sensor that's only going to give them 2mp?

Highlandah there's always going to be crying over something Nikon did "wrong" regardless of the specs :^(

Since I got Lightroom 3, I have been reconsidering my D700/replacement aspirations. The D90 with that noise reduction is really all I need. I just finished doing post processing on a wedding with it, and I'm so impressed. It was the combination of that realization and a desire for better video that helped along my decision to buy the NEX-5. ;-)

This is not to say that I won't upgrade the D90 when it gets replaced. I've got a couple of siblings that both want to buy my D90 because of the video. Now one has a D100 and the other a D200 (this is not to mention the others, who have a D80, a D40, and a D60—we're a Nikon family, what can I say? It's all so we can steal our dad's lenses—he shoots a D90).

    wasn't the D200->D300 mpx only 2mp?

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a 12->14mp increase just so Nikon can say "hey, we're still less noisy and have better DR than that POS 7D with 18mpx!"
