I'm looking for a fast lens in the 300-400mm range to shoot sports at night. As far as Nikon glass is concerned, I'm considering the the 300mm f/2.8, the 400mm f/2.8, and the 200-400mm f/4. I'm okay with using 3rd party lenses but am not as familiar with their offerings. Does anyone have any suggestions?

the sigma 120-300 F2.8 is very well regarded for this function.. but the nikkors you mentioned above are the best there is. if you can afford them then there is no point looking at other third party brands.
