Here's the deal, at the moment Nikon has 4 digital full framed cameras and 2 sensors.

I do not believe, that the D700 will be replaced before the D3.

The simply reason being, they will probably use the same sensor. Nikon wouldn't want to release a smaller and cheaper flag-ship product due to loss sales on its larger and more expensive one.

What do you think am I talking non-sense?

The only problem with that is that you are assuming the "D4" and "D800" will have the same sensor. Besides if the D800 has an awesome new higher megapixel Nikon made sensor it still wont have the high ISO that the D3S is capable of. So the "D4" could be released later with a much improved "D800" sensor that has better ISO performance. Or Nikon could go with a future "D4x" (remember there was never a D2 only D2X) with a totally separate sensor than the "16/18 megapixel "D800".

I do not think that the new full frams cameras will use the same processor. I also think the "800" will be released first as it will probably sell more a
nd make more money for Nikon. I think the D4 will part ways and concentrate on a wider ISO capability since it is a different market.

With the success of the D3/D700 sensor Nikon might be looking at expanding their own sensor designs. Especially since Sony is looking to get more aggressive with it's high-end camera bodies. It would make sense for Nikon to build more of their own sensors in the upper range. So we could see different sensors in the "D800" and "D4"

Yes Niko I think we will have to wait and see what Sony and their plans are first. Lots of talk going around that Sony will be releasing some kind of hyper MP camera very soon. I wonder if it will be a major improvement over the A900 because at 24 mp it had serious noise issues as well as other picture inadequacies. This new Sony camera is supposed to venture into the 30+ mp territory. Nikon is due for a new sensor lineup, but I think this year is unlikely now. Maybe an annoucement at September PMA then ship in 2011?
