I know there was some speculation that Nikon might have some new toys floating around at the World Cup. Has anybody heard or seen anything that substantiates this? I've been keeping my eye out for anything odd or out of the ordinary but haven't seen anything yet.
New Nikon at the World Cup?

Nope. Nikon wouldn't risk having a "prototype" floating around during such a major media event like the World Cup. IF they were to have photographers out "testing" a new model they'd be used in controlled areas and not out in the public during the games. Nikon handlers would keep VERY close watch over any "prototype" out at a major event like the World Cup. Any "blacked out" camera body you see is more likely a "regular" body taped up to avoid attention from thieves.

Yeah, I agree with Nikon.
As a sidenote, I black out my camera too. But I put "Canon" or "Pentax" on the piece of tape instead. Can't be too safe these days. ;p

Yeah who's gonna want to steal a Pentax! ;^P

The big toy that was released from Nikon with the World Cup 2010 in mind was the 200-400mm VR II lens and I'm sure the pros are very thankful. If not for the release itself, then certainly for the fact that the new lens dropped the price of the older 200-400mm lens making a potential purchase easier for work assignments. I'm sure the "Lord of Darkness" D3S is getting all the work it can handle as well! :)
