He recently posted a picture on his Tamron 10-20 review. I believe that's the one it was. Whatever, He said that the following picture was taken at "Contract Flag Manufacturer's Display, World Trade Show, Shanghai, China."

THAT IS A FLAT OUT LIE!!!

He lives in San Diego just like I do. That means he visits Sea World. I happen to work there! This picture was taken at what we call the circle of flags at what used to be called the Hospitality Center but is now known as Seaport Marketplace. Why would a USA national flag be in the center in China? Those surrounding flags are state flags! You can see one on the right that says Montana backwards!

There's no way he made a mistake here. He's been to Seaworld several times and has picture up from when he was there so he knows full well where he was and what this was.

All of those pictures were taken at SeaWorld last August so he knew exactly where he was! Calypso Bay is a resturant almost midway between the Penguin Encounter and the Circle of Flags.

Yeah he lost almost all credibility with me now trying to lie to people.

I don't think this was a "lie" - I think this is what passes for Ken's humor. He was trying to make the point that flags (especially American flags) are made in China and not by American workers.

C'mon! This is like the 10th time this EXACT thread has been made. Give him a break. You can disagree with him and express you opinion, but you don't have to constantly repeat it.

Anything you read on the internet must be taken with a grain of salt, let common sense prevail.

(poster) KRs site contains HIS opinion of all things photographic, they are only his opinion and you do not HAVE to take them on board

I don't agree with every thing he says, ( I have tried a number of things that he espouses which didn't work for me, but also didn't cost me any thing lol )

but still an interesting read every now and then !

One of the posts around here showed that he's pulling in around 94k a year on his site. (The post gave a weekly revenue amount, I simply multiplied by 52. Not very scientific, but, it gives an idea.) Say what you will, say he's a fool, but he's laughing all the way to the bank.

How did they calculate that he's pulling in $1800 a week? I find that hard to believe. There has to be substantial click-through on the ads for that to happen. If that's the case, I'm going to convert a bunch of the sites that I do to advertising-driven site. I haven't done that so far because I didn't think the revenue would be high enough to make worth gunking up the site with ads.

I read Ken Rockwell because he's fun to read. However, I believe of lot of his opinions are wrong.

That's it - you said it: he is funny. I would not base any purchasing decisions based on his writing neither will I move back to film :) It's just entertainment, nothing more, nothing serious.

There is a very opinionated talk show host that says at the beginning of his show, "Don't believe anything you hear, unless you know it to be true, or you have taken the time to do your own research." I think that's pretty good advise no matter what site you visit...except this one of course :^)

Not to be a Rockwell supporter, but I do like reading his lens reviews. I know he doesn't shoot with all of the lenses, but I haven't seen any better lens review sites. Anyway, it's nice just to pass time when I need to. :D

Any suggestions guys?

And yes, I do read with a grain of salt, so I know not all his stuff is true.

I too read Rockwell occasionally. He has an advantage over most people because he has both access and interest in new stuff. In the end, however, it's just his opinions. Grain of salt or not, he seems more open than most people when it come to photography equipment. He seems to be able to resist drinking the kool-aid of ever greater megapixels, faster as always better and who cares how big and heavy things become.

I like his judgment in knowing when to carry a D40, because it's handy vs when you need a D3x.

Yeah, his opinions are pretty cool sometimes. I like how he enjoys film nearly as much or maybe more than digital. I enjoy both formats as well and it's nice that he has access to many different types of cameras, not only just Nikons.

Its like this.. you can go to his site. But, you have to have your Bull$%^& Detector on while you are there. Sometimes he has good info, though a lot of his info comes with opinionated and hypocritical parts as well.

LOL ! Sorry whatever any one says about KR he has got people talking about him and his site and thats his aim after all!..

Still.. Not one of us here on this little friendly site totally agrees with each other all the time. and thats how I take reading his site. I read his views but make my own judgments.. I happen to agree with most of what he says and on the points I don't agree on, he does state his reasons clearly most times.

heartyfisher you have a point. There are some things he seems to understand much better than most others *cough* Active D Lighting *cough*

It just really got me and technologic when we saw a picture of our work place here in San Diego being described as shanghai or where ever LOL

@ Gentoo : Yeah that was funny ! Maybe its just that some of the screws need to be tightened a bit.. Still you know who really has all the screws tightly on.. Take me for example.. I take photos for fun. most of which no one will ever see. I am planing to spend more money than I should on some new camera equipment thats way too good for the uses I plan to uses them for. And I am still looking for a job.. although it does look like I may have one next week (Yay! Thanks for the prayers guys and gals)
