Oh. Duh.
where there’s smoke there’s forum fire

Oh, I forgot to say: Studio460, you either need to get a new monitor or get your eyes checked. There's dust all over the camera in all three of the pictures, and there are smudges on the LCD screen on the shot of the back of the camera as well.
Oh. Probably need new eyes, then. Didn't look at them closely enough, I guess. I thought they were speculars from the body's grain-relief pattern.
That looks real. Can you smell the new paint? Wow, it has a transformer dial, too! Now you can change it to ipad or nintendo Wii.Good job, Nikon! I knew you can beat Canon but I did not expect this early.
NikoDoby, that's a good point. Holding my camera in portrait mode, my ring and pinky fingers rest right where that wheel is. Maybe my thinking has been a bit too wishful!
I wonder why its not a D4xsi, the i is for imaginary until proven otherwise.
A couple more observations: what's the "V" on the lock ring for the rear directional pad for? Where are the holes for the speaker and microphone?
There's not a chance in hell Sony would allow raw shooting on a camera it is so heavily involved with. That would cannibalize a HUGE market segment for them, from small handheld cameras to much larger ones. RAW still files rival (Or exceed) what comes from their highest end Cinealta line. There is simply too much sharing of technology between various manufacturers for that to happen, at least in the immediate future. Not to mention the technical difficulties associated with shooting RAW video in such a small format camera with no hardware add-ons. I'm 100% sure it's fake just based on that alone.
Fake:
EXIF is missing following items:
<aux:SerialNumber>3003000</aux:SerialNumber>
<aux:LensInfo>240/10 700/10 28/10 28/10</aux:LensInfo>
<aux:Lens>24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8</aux:Lens>
<aux:LensID>147</aux:LensID>
<aux:ImageNumber>2420</aux:ImageNumber>
this is rendered thru a 3D software(3DS,Maya,etc.). it is a bit too noisy in the blurred area in the top view. this may happen if he use a low OSAA value while rendering.
That is definitely not a rendered set of images.
rendering? are you insane? this is real! at least D4 is real unless nikon skip the sequence in the future.
I am hoping and praying that this is real! I'm soon starting a job doing primarily videography and secondarily photography. I have been forced to look at Canon stuff!! *shudder*
My friends shake their heads as I pass by with this 5D mk2 draped over my shoulder like a scarlet letter. Please Nikon! Tell me you are bringing me this gorgeous camera! Tell me I am not dreaming when I see 2k video in a raw mode! Tell me I don't have to buy all new Canon glass just to do video!
Sorry for the emotional response, I just hate this Canon and have been longing for a Nikon to come along that rips it to itty bitty pieces. I am hoping for a 12bit raw mode but I will settle for a 10bit option with at least 4:2:2 compression. I would love a firewire800 tethering option so I can shoot directly to the mac pro when filming in the studio.
As far as this being legitimate, I really hope it is because Nikon came into this game and had no idea what they had in their hands and what they were starting then Canon jumped on the bandwagon and did a pretty good job but as far as I am concerned the 5Dmk2 is just a proof-of-concept and not really a long-term viable solution. Nikon has a chance to make any videographer's dreams come true with this D4 with 2K RAW video. Canon won't stand a chance in the market (and they will steal a lot of people from the Red camera lineup) if they can pull this off.
My dream system is a D4 with the new 85mm f1.4G VR. It would absolutely kill as a video rig! I hope Nikon people read this and see the vast market they've got chomping at the bit for something that could finally be good.
Oh, and P.S. Please also add full hdmi output for external monitors for the focus puller. Thanks!!

While 2048 x 1152 NEF RAW recording is highly unlikely (and yet another clue to the D4's faux existence), it's not because Sony is involved. Sony is just a supplier to Nikon, and while Sony will certainly remain competitive with Nikon in their like-marketed products, Sony's professional division and Nikon are not competing in those same markets. Despite this, I believe that your, "100% sure it's fake," analysis based on the image's RAW recording claim is spot-on.
As far as professional video is concerned, Nikon is not a competitor to Sony. The professional division of Sony deals with major broadcasters; Nikon does not. And not just for acquisition--when Sony or Panasonic makes a sale to a network, it's mostly for the entire recording infrastructure. If I were Nikon, I would be more concerned about Panasonic and their upcoming AG-AF100 AVCHD camcorder. Panasonic (like Sony) has decades of experience in the video recording technology business and has developed some of the best implementations of H.264-derived encoding technology for professional applications.
Nikon's "killer app," for its long-vaunted line of quality optics, would be an AG-AF100 type product. A compact, movie-camera, form-factor product that does everything the Canons do, but better. A Nikon-branded product, that accepted standard Nikkor, F-mount lenses, equipped with either a DX- or FX- format sensor, would be miles ahead of the smaller 4/3 imager technology of the AG-AF100 (a 4/3 imager would have a 2.0x crop factor). Such a product would take the indie filmmaking community by storm. No one would wait for Scarlett. They would buy Nikon. And, they would buy Nikon glass. Lots of it.
Unfortunately, Nikon either lacks the vision, the will, or the resources to either partner up, or develop on its own, a competent recording technology (i.e., a modern, AVC-type CODEC), suitable for recording high-definition video. WIthout such a technology investment or partnership from Nikon, most of us will have to remain resigned to mounting Nikon glass on yet another, non-Nikon product (Canon, Panasonic, Sony, RED).
If you think this is a computer rendering, you’re on crack. Reasons why it’s not a rendering:
1. There’s realistic looking dust and smudges on the camera. Ray tracing *still* has not gained the ability to produce convincing looking dirt. This is something that’s being researched heavily, but will need several more years of work to get right.
2. The subtleties of the dynamics of lighting are not perfected well enough yet for the camera to look as realistic as it does from a rendering.
I have been closely following raytracing for over 20 years, and I can say with confidence, this is NOT A RENDERING.
Ok solid then this "photo" of a D4 was taken by another D4 then....
The evidence points to a fake. I even think the texture on the rubber looks like it might have come from a canon 1D series
The rubber may have come from a Canon 1D series when the mockup in the pictures was assembled from parts from other cameras. I never said this was a real D4, just that this isn't a rendering.
Why would Nikon assemble a "D4 mock up" from canon parts?!?
Is there any evidence Nikon did it?

I'm gonna be honest... My post isn't random. I specifically joined to reply to this very topic. I assure you that from first hand experience I can tell you manufacturers such as Sony are very concerned about these small form factor cameras and their potential ability to outshine a video camera that costs 20X more. Were one to shoot 24 fps in Nikon (Or Canon) RAW with most if not all professional DSLRs, you would end up with a camera capable of meeting or exceeding the resolution, luminance, chroma and dynamic range of virtually all high end video cameras on the market. Cameras which are, as I mentioned earlier, much more expensive. As it is now, the DSLR manufacturers intentionally downgrade the image quality in multiple ways, to include using consumer grade codecs. With some external hardware add-ons and new connectivity, it would be quite possible physically for a DSLR to shoot RAW video, in fact the Red Scarlet is an example. Bottom line, most of the well known manufacturers share technology, and until Sony & Co. decide the market's evolved enough for RAW video, it ain't happening... Yet.

so you are/were an expert in 3D rendering/raytracing. then can you please explain the grainy noise on the hotshoe in the top view? a real lens blur would not be like that.
Apologies to everyone for this misunderstanding.
My creation of the image of (non-existent) Nikon D4 is a study for a product visualization on my portfolio. Personally, I am a Nikon fan and own Nikon D3s, so I tried to achieve visuals of Nikon's new camera based on what I knew and liked about their latest products.
Unfortunately, just before finishing the image, I sent it to few of my colleagues to discuss possible improvements and few moments later, these images showed up online. I apologize to everyone for causing these fake news.

Would the top LCD display say REM 260 if there isn't a CF card in the camera?
My D700 says -E- if there's no card inserted.
I've compared these images to D3s (from DPReview) and found some odd things.
http://yfrog.com/5jnikond4renderj
First the flash hot shoe, apart from being grainy it looks less detailed. Then there's the different spacing for the NIKON logo as someone already said. Than there's a different less rounded focus mode selector. Here I also took a sample from a photo of the D3x. The "D4" is on the left and the D3s on the right.
I say it's a VERY well made fake render.
Denisa please contact me with proof that this rendering is infact yours. Your portfolio is full of great renderings but i wouldn't want to give you credit for some elses work. I am a moderator for this forum and you can contact me via my username at yahoo dot com
