Is this for real?
wow.
So are we looking at a great photoshop or is this really the D4.
Can you give us some more information? How? When? What? Why?
P.S What is the off 1+ 2+ dial on the front for?
My guess: Photoshop.
A couple of things scream scam to me (given that I've never even seen a D3, so I could be wrong):
In the first picture - from the top - it's showing an f-stop and shutter speed seemingly without a lens attached... However, it could be there, it just doesn't look like it.
Secondly - the big D4 on the front looks suspicious to me - it looks like it was added after the fact...
Anyway I'm always intrigued ;-)
I have from friend who has a friend who tested D4 at these days. I don't think its a photoshop. There are some changes what i don't know what exactly is. Mainly the wheel in the front (off +1 +2).
I have only these photos and no more information about the camera.
piobar: I'm D3x user and if i took lens off and turn on the camera it looks similar on the top lcd.
I'm still not convinced. Did you take these photos yourself? If your friend was testing the D4 I doubt he would send photographs of it out as he may have it revoked.
Still darn cool.
It also looks like it only has S CL and CH mode... No QM or LV.
@Osiris: Fair enough. As I said - I've never even seen one, let alone have the money (or need, if I'm honest) to buy one *sob*.
Actually, what jumps out at me is the NEF video at (what looks like) Full HD quality.
Of course, my immediate suspicion is photoshop: http://xkcd.com/331/
Fake, fonts are all messed up.
They look like photoshop to me
There is something funny about these images like NikoDoby says. If they are real, WOOT on the movie modes. If they are fake, then Nikon please take note; this is what your fans and customers want.
As a moderator i also see something "behind the scenes" that kind of makes me suspicious. Sorry osiris but i'm not convinced.
On an interesting side note, the EXIF data on all 3 images shows that it was last handled with Photoshop CS3 and that the photos were taken with a Nikon D4. However that is super duper uber easy to fake.
either the lighting is perfect, or it's part D3, part rendering.
the textures look so good they look fake.
So the photos of a d4 were taken by another d4?!?
Well at least the forum is going to get a ton of traffic now :^)
My main problem is that the D4 looks almost like a D3 - I would expect for more drastic improvements in the design.

Right.
Clue No. 1: The "Nikon" badge is kerned (letter-spaced) far more tightly than current Nikon D3 models. While it's conceivable that Nikon could have redesigned the mark for this "new model," it's still another hint that something may, perhaps, be amiss.
Clue No. 2: Conversely, the "D4" mark is more loosely kerned than the current "D3" mark--another inconsistency. I'll have to study more photos of authentic Nikon bodies to verify the kerning pattern of other Nikon markings.
Clue No. 3: Also, these photos are expertly "lit," "photographed," and "prepped," as if for a product catalog. There is absolutely NO DUST visible on the body.
Clue No. 4: First post . . . ever.
Clue No. 5: The "friend" would clearly be under NDA from Nikon. No professional who wants to keep their career intact would ever leak something under NDA.
I presume Niko has other information to add to the mounting list of "clues" (IP address, etc.). I would absolutely love for this to be true, but everything tells me that it's not.
Computer says no.. I think the "roll" icon above the fps button doesn't seem to match on the dsc0521 and dsc0526. It is not placed right, is it?

Well, if it's a new model, any part of the design could have been changed. If authentic, Nikon could have actually redesigned the markings--manufacturers do this all the time. My question is--what's the point of these kinds of hoaxes? I guess, just to see if they could pull it off! Duh!

What I meant was that the little "roll" icon is not exactly on the same place in those two shots, as in poor photoshopping. That could be just my eye playing a angle-trick (?!?) on me.

Oh. My bad. Looks "right" to me, though. Like I said, it's a perfect "render." Osiris, while you're at it, could you please post some photos of the new Nikon D8000 as well?
I don't know. The noise patterns in the images, when I zoom way in, look consistent. I have been trying to figure out what the "off, +1, +2" wheel on the bottom could be since I first saw the pictures. The only thing I can think of that I think is plausible is that Nikon has added in-camera VR on the sensor perhaps? If not that, then maybe it's for video, but I can't think of what it would be for if it's a video feature.
Maybe it's just my wishful thinking, but I think it might be real. If it were fake, why would they add something in (a wheel below the lens mount) that's never been seen before in a Nikon DSLR? Wouldn't that be both difficult to pull off, and worry them that it might tip people off to it being fake?
Studio460 this is osiris first post. He left two replies on this tread. As others have mention this is probably a computer generated image. Too perfect. It. could be from nikon PR dept. but other clues point to very unlikely. So i call BS.
Solid, if that switch is for video then it's in a very awful place don't ya think? If it's for vr then it's still in a dumb spot and could be easily (accidentally) moved especially while in portrait mode.
Oh, I forgot to say: Studio460, you either need to get a new monitor or get your eyes checked. There's dust all over the camera in all three of the pictures, and there are smudges on the LCD screen on the shot of the back of the camera as well.
