J and R hasn't had the lens in stock for over a month now almost.

I'm waiting for them to stock it because I got gift cards for free for that store. Technically, it's a free lens for me.

I understand that Nikon grossly underestimated demand for their cameras and lenses, and has been keeping inventory low. Could explain a lot of the back ordered lenses. See Thom Hogan site. http://www.bythom.com/

well, i just cancelled my order... probably going to purchase the 50mm 1.4g for use with D90. At least this will give me compatibility down the road when FX is a little cheaper.

50 1.4 is much usable lens in my opinion, but that really depends on a taste, and it will give you FX compatibility if you eventually go for it.
On the other hand I do not understand the problem with Adorama, we have steady shipping of 35 1.8, though it is sold as soon as it arrives.

I would have gotten the 50mm 1.4 too if my dad doesn't have the 50mm 1.2. Sure it's manual focus, but it's the wrong focal length for the D40.

I prefer a slightly wider lens.

I prefer much wider lens, but I prefer 50 to 35 on DX.

    Thank you, connect!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw your post earlier today, and ordered one.

I've seen one of these lenses go on ebay for more than what B&H charges. They need to get the factories cranked up over there. I'm sure Nikon would do well selling a few more DX primes, too.

Just curious, but is this really a $500 lens?

Apparently, that's what it originally cost at J and R.

The Retail price is around $ 300.00 US. Here in Canada we sell for app $ 320.00 and we have stock were I work. I always love when someone have this crazy deal but no stock

I have been thinking about getting one also for D300, not sure yet. Just that the other Day at a Sports award function these group shots were taken at a very dark location and my 16-85 VR was so dark at app 30mm setting. It was to large a group to use my 50mm

This J&R is doing something that is actually illegal where I live. Writing a higher price on the tag and crossing it out is considered to be misleading advertising.

In a sense, yeah, it's like jacking it up and then lowering when you bargain with the guy- you think you got it for a steal, when you really didn't. Everyone's selling at $220.

Keep an eye on Ritz. They get them in from time-to-time. That's where I got mine. They are good people to deal with.

Not too bad. I ordered the 35mm 1.8 on 7/17/09, and I got it on 7/28/09 at J and R.

One tip- price match it with B and H. It's $11 cheaper.

It really is as good as they say it is!
