Just to let you guys know, I'm registered for history of photography. I'm so excited! Although it has nothing to do with technique, it should still be an interesting class. Plus it fulfills a requirement towards graduation, which is always nice. Our textbook is A History of Photography by Naomi Rosenblum.

I was skimming over the syllabus and we might visit the MOMA for the Henri Cartier-Bresson gallery. In addition, we need to do a term paper on a photographer, so that'd be really cool too. Extra credit assignments are interesting too, we need to go to a photographer's gallery and critique it.

Along the same lines as I discussed, I was just wondering what photography related classes you guys have taken.

My favorite class was "Photography As An Art Form". I got to do some nude photography in that class! It was actually kind of awkward because everybody else keep their clothes on :^)

Too long ago to remember exact class title - but in college took an advanced photography class. I've taught beginning photography and darkroom techniques.

I haven't been in any real photo classes. Optics was as close as I got, though I also really liked the sections on cameras and on the human eye from my intro. physics class. I also loved my scanning electron microscopy class, which has some of the same concepts as photography. I was teacher's pet because I walked into the class understanding dof. (I'm kidding)

Just a bit of an update on this thread- I got an A in the class. The professor was a really young guy, and I obviously stuck out like a sore thumb to him because I had prior experience and was one of the few people who participated. Most other people were taking the class as a requirement, a few people were actually interested. My professor was actually a grad student and he didn't do any digital photography at all, instead he prefers Holgas.

For my final paper, I did a report on Ansel Adams and we eventually did went to the Cartier-Bresson exhibit at the MOMA, which is unfortunately closed now. Too bad when I went it was the last Saturday before it closed, so it was jam packed. I really enjoyed his photos from China.

All in all, a difficult class, but enjoyable. Plus there was lots of extra credit, so although I didn't do so well on my tests, it really brought up my grade.

Never took a photography class, but just picked up a copy of "Light: Science & Magic", which is apparently used as a textbook by some professors. Very useful book, for what it's worth. Tried out some of what I already learned and the information is improving my flash skills exponentially.

BTW, I audited NikoDoby's class. As a result, I've got a scar in the center of my forehead from trying to blind my mind's eye :) :)

When I was in middle school ( 7th grade, not all that long ago to be honest, I'm only a junior in college now), I got to take a photography class (film) and that was a great experience for me, as it was obviously my first time developing film and holding a real camera, etc.

This last year in college, I took a intro photo class (so I could have access to the darkroom and because I have a little wiggleroom with my schedule and was initially planning to maybe get a photo minor, but no longer... :( ) I was lucky enough to have my teacher be a pretty renowned fotog for the Boston Globe. Really great genuinely nice guy, He's been with the globe forever, and had a lot of really great advice to give. Since I was more experienced than most in the class I think I was able to get a lot more out of it, as he was always willing to talk and help out with whatever.

As a photo major, I took every photo class my college offered, but the most helpful class for my photography was a 2D art class.

The classes I learned the most from:

1. Two-dimensional design (art).
2. Photographic sensitometry.
3. Color theory.

By the way, all three required texts were excellent, cited below, repectively:

1. "Principles of Two-Dimensional Design" by Wucious Wong.
2. "Photographic Sensitometry: The Study of Tone Reproduction" by Hollis N. Todd and Richard D. Zakia.
3. "Color Photography in Practice" by D.A. Spencer.

There's another 2D design text for which I can't remember the title. It's an excellent text and reference work, and far more detailed than the brief Wucious Wong primer. Will post the citation when I can remember the title.
