Hi.
In many stores the Coolpix P6000 is reported as "discontinued". A new Coolpix, P serie, is coming soon?

Hello lucasc
The P6000 has been discontinued since Aug. or Oct. of last year. Nikon have said they are working on a "canon G11 killer" but have yet to make any announcements as to when it will be released. It will probably show up in September of this year.

I'm looking forward to the P6k replacement. It may be a Sony influenced product.

??? Not sure what you mean? Most COOLPIXes already share parts with Sony especially the image sensors. So thats not really something new.

P7000 at long last !!!
If the tests are as good as its promises, it's mine !!!
OK, it's not a rangefinder, but look at the specs… They fulfil almost everyone's dreams.
What I need to know before falling for it is the viewfinder coverage (Mmmm…), and the delay between the moment I depress the shutter and the moment the picture is taken (I guess that's quite good ?)
Any info on those will be appreciated. Thanks !

Samples look great! price may be a bit steep though.. will have to wait a bit for the price to drop.. but really looks like a good package! however, the nex5 may be a better deal?

To me, a viewfinder, even if it's not quite 100% is invaluable, and that rules out the nex5, but it's everyone's choice of course.
Hey ! Xmas is coming soon :o)

Reading everything I can find on the Internet about the P7000, I found that the French Nikon site says the video is 30 fps, not 24. Is that good or bad ? (I've never used a photo camera for video).
Also, I've read somewhere that the minimum f number is 8, and that's why they have included a neutral grey filter. What about the effect on the depth of field ?

I think the P7000 is too little too late. It doesn't kill the Canon G11 like Nikon said it would. It's just a G11 copy that doesn't really do anything that much better then the G11 or 12. It pretty much just equals them.

hey johnny.. what do you think? how does the spec and samples compare to your nex?

lol there is no way the p7000 p+s is going to rival a 4/3 camera. esp. the nex5 the sensor is tiny!
look at this

compared to this
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/NEX5/NEX5A.HTM
the nex5 has better iso1600 than a d5000!
it will be really interesting to see nikons EVIL camera. then we might have a challenger.

I don't need to wait for a review because as gareth mentions there is no way the P7000's small sensor is going to match must less exceed a bigger sensor from a NEX like camera. As for your previous question about DOF Bernard, you can't get DSLR-like Depth-of-Field from such a small sensor. It's pretty common for point & shoots to only be able to go up to f8.

Thanks to both of you ! Very interesting reading :o)
I never knew that P&S only went up to f8…
I know why I love my D300 and lenses so much ! :oDPosted 2 years ago # -
tried one of these yesterday.
needless to say, my wife and i much prefer my old canon sx10is.
the p7000 has a horrible plastic body. the scroll is very small and hard to use. in manual i could use the scroller wheel for the aperture, but how the hell do i adjust shutter speed?
clunky toy feel.
but it does have a lot of buttons, and may take reasoable shot.
if i liked point and shoot my money would go to canon.
ironic that i love the heavy metal feel of the nikon slrs but their top of the line "G11 killer" feels like a toy compared to a canon.
the 5d feels like a toy compared to my d700 though.

I never knew that P&S only went up to f8…If you are looking to increase your depth of field, you don't really need to worry about f-stop on a compact. On the wide end the P7000 is 5mm I think? Even on the long end you are probably always shooting at hyperfocal distance by f/8. Also, you are way into diffraction being relevant by f/8 on a compact, so f/11 would probably just blur the whole image more.
