Which 24-70 2.8 should I get?

The traditional, brand new, at 1720

Its used, comes with the hood and caps, and is supposedly in perfect condition. Now the reason I'm debating this decision is... I really really like the all black one instead. And it has the gold ring! Status symbol for sure!

I know it sounds stupid, but this will be my first pro lens purchase, I don't have any gold rings yet :(

I got the cash to buy either one, and was actually going to buy the black one next week before I came across this grey one.

two different lenses, the second one is the old version - with aperture ring, get the new one - it's gonna be better for digital

Good to know. I knew the grey one was the older version. But I didn't think there was much of a difference.

Not to mention that the focal lengths are different, with the older one being 28-70mm not 24-70mm.

I read the title and thought I had somehow missed a 24-70 2.8 VR announcement. I will return to the shadows and wait.
