The are both APS-C sized sensors! NEX 3 has 720 video and is the cheapest model and NEX 5 has 1080 HD video. And they are cheaper than the Panasonic and Olympus M4/3rd cameras (the GF1 & E-P1)

I think Sony has finally found their niche. Has anyone done tests?

I found the first "review" with ISO samples! Looks really good up to 1600 and usable up to 12800.

    Here's a shot at ISO 12800!

I read the nex5 has 1080i video. That is bizarre to me that it's not 1080p. I saw nex3 and 16mm pancake for $643. That is a fun setup. Maybe my wife will want one. A guy can dream, right?
In any case, I think m4/3's day in the sun is ending.

No hotshoe though I don't know how the flash works exactly. I looks like it might be "adjustable" or "replaceable" somehow? Notice the "wheel"

The review I read said that it comes with the camera but is attachable to that little pop-up thing. It will alternately take things like a stereo mic for video. You'd think they'd have to include some standard flash sync capability, don't you? Don't the alpha SLRs have a flash accessory? Probably the regular hotshoe would be an optional accessory.

Yeah I guess it was to save space. The camera is so thin I doubt a regular hot shoe would have fit!

I'm sure a third party will make an Fmount adapter for this camera. My DX lenses can now live on my Sony haha!

I guess as long as there would be a way to sync off camera flash I would be good.

I love this thing. APC sized senors. ISO performance is more than I need.

I am just curious as to the differences between the NEX 5 and 3. On one hand I like the sleek sexy look of NEX 3 but NEX 5 has that mini grip that I would find more ergonomic in usability.

So what's the real difference between these two cameras?

    Just the video quality?

Yes the NEX 3 is cheaper, sleeker, and has 720p MPEG-4 video. The NEX 5 is a bit more expensive, has the slightly thicker grip and 1080p AVCHD video. Other than that they have the same specs.

Than in this case I will opt out for the NEX 3. Don't care about video. 720 is pretty damn good for occasional uses during vacation or whatever.

I am so giddy now!! Can't wait to go and try one.

They are coming out like the 13th, no?

Not sure. The official Sony announcement will be in about either 30mins or an hour & 30 something like that. Once that happens pre-order links should start popping up.

At least you can get to the sensor easily :-) .. yeah I have been cleaning my sensors recently :-)
AVCHD compression is good.. Could be a fun camera to carry around..

Not to mention that no moving mirror means it'll be a very quiet camera.

Crazy looks like a comparable shot of ISO 400 maybe 600 on D200.
It definitely makes sense to get this sleek body over an entry dslr for the most of the masses.

Yeah it looks pretty clean up to ISO 1600.

    ISO 1600

Above that you start seeing noise but it's no where near what you would normally see on a point & shoot at that range. Very DSLR looking image quality.

Ohh man, I hope they come out with Zeiss lenses for this. Couple that combo with an optical viewfinder of some sorts and you have a killer beast.

But I rally really hope that there's some kind of sync with external flash. Something that I could use off camera.

Wow nice cameras, I hope Nikon makes something like this. I cannot bring myself to buy Sony products, for various reasons.

You're in luck, man, especially if you're used to shooting Zeiss manual focus on Nikon and wish you also had autofocus.

    from the phototwist review:

Coming are accessories like a wide angle and fish-eye extender lenses; accessory flash; adapters for lenses made for the larger format Alpha lenses.

Zeiss lenses that will work with that adapter:
