For the 2 past week, Ive been over on Macrumors searching, posting, and decideing on my purchases in the future. (decided on Ipad and new Mbp 15' for college). After posting two different threads... How people reacted to me seeking help wasnt that friendly. Half of the comments i got were rude remarks bashing me and critizing me by even posting my sitiuation on day 1 of joining.

So, I want to say to all you nikon rumors members... Thank you for all your help and being kind and friendly to all. Best forum ever

Today... I posted an Ipad thread today. I got people bashing on me for not understanding a analogy compareing my girlfriend to an ipad... ( didnt make sense to me at first ) and i got bashed for not understanding it right away... One called me socially Inept. One also said "Next March. Please close this thread now" to my question of when should we expect the 2nd generation Ipad. Im not here to rant about my expierence. because honestly... It wasnt that bad. But I didnt feel welcome on that forum at all.

My MBP thread was about 4 days before the MBP announcement. When i stated that it was my first post on the website. and that i havent understood the website enough to know previous threads that has been discussed about the subject. One went out and bashed me for not knowing how to use the search engine on the website and that this thread has been discussed in "im waiting for arrandle" thread that consists of over 35,000 posts about the MBP. My apology for not reading a 35,000 long thread to those offended of my thread. Hahaha

yeah I'm new here (newer than you), but this is quite the friendly and helpful forum isn't it? No matter what level photographer asks, there is an answer.

I won't comment on the ipad decision as they really don't make much sense to me (some of the other tablets appearing now hold a little more appeal to me, but not much), but as far as the mbp is concerned, I have to say I love mine(although mine is technically just a macbook, but its the aluminum one, before they changed its name to a pro, but its the same computer basically) , but make sure you get applecare. Mine is 5 months out of basic warranty and the logic board is breaking, and they want to charge me 250 to fix it. pretty dissapointed, I mean I know things break, but when I have taken impeccable care of the item (always in its case, never dropped, etc) if one of the main components of the computer breaks relatively early in its lifespan, I get a little angry.

I'm sure you'll have better luck though.

Thank you foolie, I am sorry about your macbook :/. Things do break.. But i feel that every single piece of technology that cost that much should be built pretty good.

Im waiting to get my macbook pro during the summer to get the educational discount along with the back to school promo ( free Ipod touch ). I had been foruming over on macbook rumors on either getting a basic MBP and a upgraded Imac for main photograpby editing or a Ipad for note taking and everyday use, also use the Ebook app for some of my online only books and a fully upgraded 15' I7 Mbp. I decided on the ipad and mbp because i dont neccesarily need a fully upgraded Imac so early on. and also ive heard bad things about the display. Im going to wait till the end of college to get my main Desktop. I will be purchasing both apple care warranties for the ipad and mbp

I agree with you smarterchild I like this forum because not only is it helpful, but the posters are friendly as well making it a pleasure to log into everyday.

Id love it to have a better resolution screen. But overall.... Im going to use it as a portiable electronic notebook i can carry with my books. Note take in class when i dont feel like bring a 15' MBP to class along with all my camera gear. (My bag already weighs 30lb). And photo presentation to clients, friends, and who ever else.

mostly just whenever i dont feel like using my Macbook pro.

that sounds like a solid idea.

Have you taken notes on one before? How are you going to go about doing it. I don't like the typing method very much, and I feel like it would be very hard to take fast notes, unless you mean through writing no the screen? Does it allow that? seems like that would have problems too.

don't plan on carrying camera gear with you, you'll soon learn that a small body and one lens is more than enough for photos while walking around. I generally just have my Rollei on me.

Indeed! I work for my campus newspaper as a staff photog, and just bringing the damn cinderblock of a DSLR to school is such a hassle. I feel like selling all of it and just getting a micro 4/3 system.

I dont plan on always carrying all my gear with me. Usually i keep it all in my car. whenever i have to take newspaper pictures ill bring my bag to the shoot.

My bag is a Aw comptu trekker
-D3,f5,D90, 70-200, 24-70, 50 1.4, sb-600 and 900. TTL cord, With set of wireless transmitters and recievers. With two big packs of batteries :). My back is killing me... Hahah. Im going to start moving all my gear into my fast pack again. Keep it simple... D3 with 24-70 with 50 1.4 and sb900. Nothing more. Nothing less

I plan on messing around with it more the next few days. Ive gone in and used Pages alot. Its pretty tough, but hey.. Its new. Im really good at WPS on the keyboard, i figure i could do okay with the ipad after i use it. I was thinking i could also just have the Bluetooth keyboard( those things are so small) fit that in any backpack with my books and just sit there with my keyboard typeing, Im far from being able to text or type looking at the keyboard or screen.

I, too, have been impressed by nikonrumors. Friendly, helpful advice. Interesting discussions. And when people disagree, which is inevitable, there always seems to be a respect for the other opinion. Thank you all!

BTW, I occasionally read Macrumors. But I'm always baffled by the unnecessary, venomous, ill-informed comments on there.

I wouldn't either :). At first... It stayed with me everyday, i took it everywhere with me until recently i got theft insurance on it

Jonny, Too add to the mac comments... I figure it would be easier to just switch to all mac. Im upgrading my phone this summer to an Iphone, I want an ipad, Macbook Pros are amazing from what i hear for "artsy" photography students haha. Apple is more of a trend and i see that. But also i have lots of negative experiences with Pc. My dad has repaired my Desktop pc ive been using ever since 7th grade so many times. It has been into the shop about 10 times over the course to have its hard drive wiped clean because of stupid PC viruses.

Also, I would like to personally thank admin for this website and to all the moderators out there, Niko especially you. And our platinum member jonny!

Its so true, I have seen that so many times. I guess thats a downfall for how many members they have on their website each day.

smarterchild - check refurbished section on apple web site, also the same configurations from BH are usually couple bucks cheaper than this what You can find in apple store. anyway, if You go for MBP, everything produced on Santa Rosa platform (or later) will do the job (mid 2007 and up), get the antiglare and upgrade memory ASAP and HDD to 7200rpms. as for ipad - it's a nice toy, great to show Your portfolio.

Maybe somebody needs to stay away from certain websites, and I'm not talking about Nikonrumors ;P

In the last 7 years of using a pc (and for the last 1.5 years using bootcamp with windows 7 on my macbook) I have not gotten a virus that lasted more than 2 seconds, meaning the antivirus took care of it.

I love my macbook dearly, but after this last experience, I will not be paying this premium again, this is my last apple product. It's really a drag too because I was just about to finally upgrade my ram, and now I don't feel safe doing so as my computer takes 80-100 hours (literally) to charge, and even when it is charged it only lasts for like 45 minutes. sorry I am ranting again about this, it's just so frustrating.

but as you said you are getting applecare so you have nothing to worry about!

You do know that laptop batteries don't last forever right? You can try replacing it.
