I was just reading the posting on DpReview on this new Leica V-Lux 20 what an absolute waste of money.
OK so here you have $ 699.00 Panasonic ZS7 with a Leica sticker on and it even has a less sophisticated Motion JPEG format compared to the AVCHD Lite format in the Panasonic model which BTW you can have for app $400.00
Wow, so app $300 for that cute little red Leica sticker, newer mind hitting my head if I bought one, some should hit yours if you bought one yourself

Well there are some who would pay big $$$ for a leica lens and I think it's for the same reason, just for the red badge.
After all the years of love with their film cameras, Leica burned me bad with the M8 :^(
I could picture this:

(mrs Niko) so how much did you spend this time
(Niko)kind of mumbles some numbers
(mrs Niko) you spend what "while she is looking for something to hit with"

Did/do you own an M8, then, Niko? I think an M9 would be so much fun, but I could have so much more fun spending the money on something else.
Nikodoby did you own an M8? If so please share because I did also and was disappointed with the image quality. I would go even as far to say that I was more happy with the D80 I had at the time. I paid $200 a piece for two UV IR filters for the damn thing and it had no low light ability or decency over ISO 400 I thought. Luckily I bought it used, but it was still very $$$$. However, I am a HUGE fan of the Leica M system and absolutely love their lenses. All other M bodies are wonderful except the M5 of course.
Oh and Pete couldn't agree with you more on the Crap-Lux 20. The new Leica X1 is a waste as well. I see they up to as much as $3000!!! Its a damn point and shoot! Mind boggling..
Yeah the M8 was a big disappointment. I got better image quality and less of a hassle using a point & shoot! I got rid of it very quick! What really got to me was how Leica tried to convince everyone that slapping a filter on the camera was suppose to be a solution?!?!
And how did they NOT see any problems before releasing the camera to the public?! Especially the black renders as purple problem! For so much money and supposed "prestige" it was a total epic fail, but because they are Leica they still sold cameras-WTF?!
I guess people with money don't mind throwing it away on unreliable crap. Just look at Ferrari! Oh! haha!
Yes I agree 100% NikoDoby. I spent $3200 on a used 90% M8 back in the summer of 2008 and I couldn't believe that the blacks or any darker shades of color would look that bad and pass quality control! Leica is very strick in this department maybe even more than Nikon so how did it get trhough? The UV IR filters were so damn expensive that I had to search for cheaper ones like from Kinko. I gutted it out til Christmas then sold it for a D300 and the 18-200mm and pocketed the difference back then.
However, Leica is just too damn nice of a product to stay angry at them though. I wouldn't give up on a Leica M9 I'm pretty sure.
