I have a D5000 and am looking at a 35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8. I prefer a DX lens.
Wondering if anyone knows if Nikon will be releasing a 50mm 1.8 DX?

Why would they make a 50mm DX lens. The 50mm 1.8 is only 120 now as it is, there would be no plus side to making a DX version of it. I have both of them and the 35mm never leaves my camera. It just has a better feel on a DX body.
I think you'll be waiting a while on that one - the 50/1.4G works great and is very reasonably priced.
The reason he is asking is that the 50 1.8 does not autofocus on the D5000.
Though i agree that there is a pretty low chance of getting this lens.
Your realistic options are either getting the 35mm 1.8 (gives 50mm field of view on DX) for $199
Or suck it up and get the 50mm 1.4 for $500.
Not likely, but they may update the 50mm 1.8 to AF-S in the future.
If you don't have it yet, get the 35/1.8DX ... it's just a super little lens for the price. Equal center wide open and better corners than the AF 50/1.8 or the AF 35/2. (Photozone.de) Nikon did us DX shooters a real solid on this one.
If you have to have a 50, you can get the 50/1.4G in NYC for $430
At this time I would not hold your breath for any particular DX prime. I hope I will be proven wrong about this, but probably not.
I would like a 28 DX prime please... unless nikon comes out with a 1.25 crop sensor :-)
A 28mm DX or a redesigned FX 28mm F2.8 AF-S would suite me just fine too. I used to have a 28mm F2.8D and loved the focal length, but not the sharpness.
28 FX or 18 dx is another of my fav focal lenghts. Lucky for me most of the kit lenses starts at 18mm
:-)
But no the 28mmDX is equal to about 40mmFX which is a great street and casual portrait focal lenght. I am hoping for a 28 F1.8 dx but I would be happy with a 28 F2 DX
Sigma makes a 28mm 1.8, it works for FX too. But it's nowhere as sharp as the 35mm 1.8.
I was comparing my cousin's Canon mount 28mm to my 35mm 1.8 though, so maybe there is a difference between Canon and Nikon mounts?
Canon shoots out of focus by default

You still sound bitter about your 40D experience, Pete. ;-)
I'd expect short DX primes. Either a 16mm, 20mm, or 24mm next. It would be fun if Nikon released a rectilinear 10mm DX, too, but I don't think it would be as popular as these other focal lengths.
50mm DX? Why? AF-S would be around 300$ and I do not see to much market for it.
Even much more useful AF-S DX Micro 85mm VR is not selling well, if at all.
DX lenses seam pretty much dead except really cheap zooms.
Are you excepting the 35 1.8, mb? Because that lens has been really popular (and for good reason, IMO).
I think we'll see at least one more DX prime just because the potential market is so big.
Of course I do, that lens is the hit right to the spot, not to expensive and has everything young DX body needs ;)
Wish something similar from Nikon in the future
