This one will not be easy to manage, but if you want to say something about KR this is the place. Please keep it civilized.

He writes a lot of things that aren't remotely true. The man is pure entertainment though. I'll give him a passing grade.

Hey,
Good to see you as the first forum member :)Posted 4 years ago # -
I take what he says with a grain of salt. He can test and try more stuff than I can, he has a pretty deep archive and talks like a real world engineer like myself.
We have to boil technical terms down to grocerylinespeak so people can understand it, Ken does the same, but definately go to dpreview and bythom as well to get balanced opinion.

I stopped looking at his site for quality suggestions when I read this on the 17-55mm review:
"Buy one if you need to look tough and have a lens you can use for self defense. Personally I prefer my lighter 18-55mm kit lens, which gives about the same results optically for digital, even the D2X. Digital isn't very tough on lenses compared to what we did with 35mm film. I'm not particular to needing f/2.8 for low light; I use slower lenses and crank up the ISO."

I looked at his site as i'm just starting with a DSLR (D90), he's got a lot of useful info, but as others have mentioned he does thing his own way.

like him but loseing faith fast why does he hate digital so much ?????

Ken has jewels buried in the sand, you just have to remember that it's a litter box.
If you keep in mind that he considers his site to be a hoax site, it's easier to find the truth from the fiction, but far too many people take what he says as gospel.

I fully agree with Canon Rumors and NakedLens. Ken's site is pure entertainment. He is outrageous (and sometimes technically incorrect), but, like Rush Limbaugh, gets people cranked up. I've stopped checking his site, for the most part, because I just got bored with it.

Disappointed, especially after his prediction of the MX format...

Ah Ken Rosswell :-)
As most people point out, you take the good with the bad.
Mostly Ken has such a bad rap because he says things people don't want to hear such as possibly wasting money on the latest and greatest piece of equipment.Posted 4 years ago # -
I feel that a deli shop has less bologna than he produces.
I wonder if he believes half of what he writes, but, he has his following so ....
If reviews is what you are after, i feel there are other sources more intellectually honest. I stopped reading his stuff long long ago. Actually, this is the only photo site I go to, in addition to Fred Miranda (nothing but masters .... well so was when I last checked it out) and a couple of others we all know.
Just my view.

I like his line of thought when it comes to equipment. I also like looking at his reviews, for sample images etc. Overall since when could anybody take anything with 100 percent truth on the Internet. Look at both sides of the spectrum and decide for yourself.

Everything he says is correct for him. But just because he is fine doing things a certain way doesn't mean that you will be ok with it. I like the way he is honest with himself. The best thing to take away from Ken is probably to respect the way he operates rather than the exact details of his advice, and use that to find your own path. The world is not big enough for two Ken Rockwells after all.

I am neutral with him. Some times i am totally agree with things like "Why Camera
Doesn't Matter" but in another way he tens to be very contradictory , for example he says that we have been spamed with DX sensors and lenses but he love his D40 over his bulkier cameras. he blame digital features but he puted in a pedestal years before after used 35mm his entire life until digital.Anyway he is right telling us that digital make us spend a lot of money on new stuff every year giving us features that really dont make us better photographers.
on his technicals reviews (camera and lenses) i found it similar to dpreview conclusions

"Mostly Ken has such a bad rap because he says things people don't want to hear such as possibly wasting money on the latest and greatest piece of equipment."
Oh jeez...I have heard a lot of reasons to dislike Ken's advice, but that's a new one.
When it comes to cost of equipment, have you noticed how Ken loves to point out when a product is made in China? There's another contradiction to note about him.

He must be doing something right, for a completely unrelated site to have a dedicated forum thread for him.
He writes what he thinks about at the time. Most of us say things at one time or another that may not make the best sense, they just aren't on a web site. He managed to supplement his income doing it - good for him.
I do enjoy when he talks about the cheaper equipment being just as good or better for jobs than the latest and most expensive equipment. Often it makes perfect sense to all but those who bought the latest and most expensive equipment.

I think KR is good for beginners if they read his user guides. It's in plain language which makes it less intimidating. However once a person really gets into digital photography, his advice starts to sound like a train wreck.
When I first started out, I read his site a lot. Now I check into it to see what he's saying. His whole rant against digital and digital coming to an end is comical. The rest of the world has moved to digital, even television. Why would he think photography which meshes well with digital, go the other way?

his site is deff on my list to check from day to day... but just like most everyone else thats posted here, i dont take him seriously...
i like his reviews, but mostly i think he is just full of hot air. Ill take the word of Thom Hogan over KR's anyday. I trust what hogan has to say, and he seems less biased towards things. Hogan seems like a pro thats been around long enough to give a very honest and informed opinion, based on fact, research, and experience... KR comes off as a 4 year old thats been sent to his room for throwing one to many tantrums.Posted 4 years ago # -

LOL that's just funny!

Love/Hate, just like my wife. I have to say he's got a lot name recognition, that might be his goal. He's latest attempt to bring back film is futile.
I like to start a poll, How many people donate to his site?

Who is Ken R?
A man that wants to support his growing family through lens entertainment? OMG
Not half of his words I take seriously.
Posted 4 years ago # -
A self publicist who frankly makes what are obviously untruthful and outlandish claims & comments in order to get more coverage on the net and sucker people on to his site and even bigger suckers to give him money - don't do it, don't believe it, don't give him any credibility & DON'T GO TO HIS SITE !!
Posted 4 years ago # -
Ken is very knowledgeable but he thinks his ways are the only right way and everyone else's is crap. He has some lenses under his "Lens Reviews" which he hasn't tried yet just like the Nikon 600mm f/4 VR. He wrote..."Nol, I've not tried this 600mm yet, and I'm fully confident that it's a winner". Way to do a lens review Ken!

I've taken interest in things Ken says, but, like others, I try not to take him too seriously. I mean, it's his website where he posts HIS opinions. Therefore, there's nothing he says that can be counted as credible. Nothing anybody says except for pure stats on equipment can 100% true. Ken's just publishing his thoughts about camera paraphernalia and it's up to readers to take it how they want to.
I only visit his site to see what he thinks about a lens or camera I'm interested in purchasing. It's a genuine curiosity thing. But ultimately, I make the decision whether something's worth the money or not. Yet there are certain points he makes with which I must agree. I just wouldn't say he's terribly trustworthy in every school of thought.
