Yeah, I was only joking, Chris. I've said it before—I know you're a pragmatic film shooter, not a filmevangelist (gelavangelist?).
Great shots. I think my p&s's 1/2.7" sensor was a little smaller than her face on the negative of that first image. It almost boggles the mind to think about.

You have no Idea! Its such a tiny country when compared to Australia or America. Yet you can get to deserts, rainforest, rivers, plains, volcanic landscapes, hot springs, beaches, snowcapped mountains, glaciers, lakes, oceans, gorges, fiords, caves.. etc most within 2 hours all within 5 hours drive from Christchurch! I so want to get back there again!
Someday I'll try to get there, hearty. For now, I haven't even scratched the surface of what we have here in Utah for landscapes. I've been too busy with school/work.
It's to a great extend the photographer but then again some pics just can't be made with every camera. But I must say there are some pretty decent p&s cameras out there, some even quite capable of making some concert photos. But if you really want the amazing shots you really need the best of the best, or something very close to it anyway.
That being said, I've never bought the most expensive cameras, just try to make the best of things with the almost best.
I always carry my p&s with me btw, always good for that one moment when you really need a camera and you are not busy making photos.
Although you will find 2.8's in p&s cameras.
Still I agree that the wider variety of tools on the SLR make it possible to take pictures you wouldn't on a P&S
What is the use for this 2.8? shallow depth of field or maximum light on the sensor? The first will not be accomplished with a 2.8 lens on a p&s. And as for maximum light on the sensor, you might be better off with a slightly smaller aperture and having a bigger sensor in your p&s. I won a Fuji F31 and it's sensor is simply amazing, slightly bigger than all the others at that time (and even today) and a limited pixel count leads to very good low light pics.
Too bad I can't take it everywhere, it's loaded into my underwater housing and since it's great for underwater photography and almost impossible to find second hand I'll just leave it there. I just have to carry my fuji F50 around, nice at daylight but way worse at low light... so be it
Although the bokeh sucks you'd be surprised how much Dof my cybershot gets...

I laugh at my point and shoot's 2.8 lens. It performs nothing like a 2.8 lens. Focus is relatively slow, most of the time it hunts, the shutter lag is crazy. Depth of field is variable on my point and shoot. Usually it's okay, but it is excellent with landscape, as all of you have said- small sensor. But if you set it on macro mode, depth of field is surprisingly shallow.
