Guys and gals, My local camera shop in Qatar sells MultiBlitz studio lighting kits. Can you tell me anything about them.? Are they a good brand, hold up well, etc?. The Compact Plus kit here is about $1200.
Thanks

MultiBlitz is very good German professional photo lighting manufacturer.
Compact Plus Kits comes in various versions and prices are from 1000€ to 1500€ depending on version.
mb, the kit I am looking at is the Compact Plus Location kit. It has 2 200Ws strobes, 2 umbrellas, 2 stands, and bag for about 1200 USD, so about 900 o so EUROs. I am basically wanting to set up a small portrait studio in my house.
Okay, someone might say I'm crazy for saying it, but for the size room you've mentioned (~3m x 4m), I can't see you needing more than 200Ws. You'd probably find yourself shooting at 1/2 power (100Ws) or less most of the time if you're using f/4 or wider, and if you ever did find yourself limited by your strobes' power, you can always boost the ISO a bit on the D90 and still be okay.
Johnnyapple...thanks for easing my mind a bit. This is my first adventure into studio photography as I usually shoot sports, travel, and outdoors. It just seems to me that $1200 for a "small" studio kit is a bit extreme, especially when I see the Alienbee kit for $600.
It is a good price for this kit, and quality of MultiBlitz products is very good so in my opinion this is very good option for what you have described.
What do you think the import duties and shipping would cost? It looks like you'd have to have them shipped out of australia if you bought alien bees. It could turn into a big hassle to deal with customs depending on where you are.
I can most of the time get around the import duties by claiming they are for the university I work for, but shipping would most likely be 300 to 400 USD, not worth it if I end up with customs hassles. I will most likely go out tomorrow and buy the Multiblitz set. I will have to sell them before I move back to the states or deal with hauling a transformer though.
Let us know how they work. Good luck!
My lights have 250Ws power and I have the power set down almost all the time, 200Ws is plenty of power
