It was unusual to see this at these two reliable distributors. (They tell you they are out of stock). Does this happen often and I miss it? Is there a crunch on distribution on the Nikon end? are the slowing down production for the D90x and D400 ;=)?

If it's out of stock at more than one major retailer I'd say that Nikon hasn't shipped them what's on order. I used to be the buyer for a musical instrument shop and I'd have replenishment orders on backorder status tons of times. It's normal for popular stuff.

I have been watching D90 prices at B&H since Christmas and they have been out of stock several times. In just about every instance they have raised prices, before they re-stocked,hopefully that won't be the case this time.
Glancing at the latest reviews it would seem that they sold quite a bit of them last month.
If you need one, J&R has them for $889.99,one of the best prices around from a "REPUTABLE" dealer.
What I don't understand is why dealers can't seem to get their hands on the new 35mm f/1.8. Tons of DX shooters want them but can't find them in stock anywhere.

shutterdancer, as with stock issues with the D90 and D300, it's probably because Nikon just hasn't made enough to fulfill orders.
Look at the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo's finally catching up with orders now... When was it released? LOL

That means that they're replacing the D90 too!!!
(Much sarcasm is in my post.)

Well like I said...and was hoping would not happen,B& H just jacked up prices another $20.00 while they are out of stock on the D90......I do alot of business with these guys and really like them....but they are starting to tick me off just a bit....they lost my recent D90 purchase because of this BS!!

shutterdancer... How does their price compare to everybody else that you've looked at?

My local camera shop in Portland, Pro Photo Supply - one of the larger stores in the Northwest, told me that Nikon was doing their warehouse inventory through the month of April so all shipments to retailers would be delayed until the end of the month. This might explain the temporary out of stock status on popular cameras and specialty lenses like super telephotos at major retailers.

Although you are not discussing D700, in case you didn't noticed, yesterday B&H increased D700 body price in $55.00 - from $2,369.95 to $2,424.95 !

Did B&H have the cameras in stock when Nikon did their price increases?
The reason I ask is that when I used to be the buyer for a musical instrument shop, the system we used would register price changes when a new shipment was recieved. I'm thinking that the price wasn't changed until the new shipment was received and the invoice for that new shipment was entered into their system (invoices include MSRP and dealer cost, from which the actual selling price of the camera is probably derived via a formula).

GilmourD,
B&H has been in and out of stock several times since the Nikon price increase, and if i'm not mistaken they have raised prices by 20 bucks before they re-stocked every time. All of the major dealers used to pretty much be on the same page as far as prices went, but now J&R still has the D90 body for $889.99,with B&H listing theirs for $949.95.Most all dealers are over the $900.00 mark now.Posted 4 years ago # -
Hmmm... Weird...

D300 in stock at B&H

B&H is still out of stock on the D90 but they just increased price to $974.95....so did J&R...from $889.99.The dealers seem to be putting a lot of room, price-wise, between the D5000 and the D90.
