Hopefully Nikon WILL announce the D4 and D400 this August. If they do, I'd predict that the DX D400 will have a total revenue (sales volume) well in excess of the D4. NikoDoby does know that there is a market for DX cameras. Right now there still is a massive shortage of D7000 at least in body only. I don't want yet another DX kit lens (the 18-105VR) which I already have and do not use at all any more. That lens is OK on a DX camera I just prefer the combo 12-24 Nikkor DX, 18-200VR, and 70-300VR (FX). So DX cameras are going to be made and sold by Nikon for years to come. That is my reading of the tea leaves and feedback from many DSLR users. Given some of the recent uncertainty I wonder though if anything is going to be on schedule?? We all hope so. Especially true as it will take a better part of a year to actually get a D4 or D400. I am also quite certain that many serious Nikon users will actually opt to wait for a D800 instead of a D4.
the answer to this is simple, if you already have a DSLR then by all means go ahead and wait, however if you do not have one, then do not wait.
